Can't install sony vegas, probably because of C++ Redistributable

I went ahead and did it and when it asks to install visual C++ it puts the same one back in (Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable) and Vegas does the same thing when it tries to install. Which visual is it supposed to install? Is there somewhere I can download the correct one....whatever that is? Thanks

Are you sure you did everything correctly?
Try doing it again, except this time also try to remove the C++ Redistributable from add or remove programs as well. Well do that first, and then do the utility thing.
If then you start up vegas and it begins installing the C++ Redistributable, and installs it successfully it should work. It worked for me and also for my sister laptop (although what worked for her is simply re-extracting the Sony Setup files).

Hi;
I was able load both Sony Vegas Pro 8 and 9 with no problems whatsoever using the autorun installer on the DVDs. Both installed without a hickup.
They run great on Win 7.
Running Windows 7 RC build 7100.

Yes, I even downloaded the Microsoft cleanup thing you talked about. I will try using the Remove Software this time but does it really matter if the disc is going to install the same one anyway? I went a step farther and downloaded the newest C++ 2008 redistributable and when the disc tried to install, it said it has to load the 2005 and it did, so I had both on at the same time that time and of course it failed again. I really appreciate your help. I guess I'm gonna have to wipe off the hard drive and start from scratch. Vegas 9 works for others with Windows Vista 32 bit. It must be something on my computer. Maybe it was a glitch when they loaded my system.

I was running both Vegas Pro 8 & 9 on Vista Ultimate 32 until the 20th of May, when I cleaned my C: drive off and installed Win 7 RC as a clean install. If your hardware previously ran Vegas Pro 8 and you haven't made any substantial changes to it then your problem is your system install is either corrupted or not complete and all you are doing is putting off the inevitable - a fresh clean install of Win 7 RC.
I know it's a pain to re-install your OS but once your OS gets messed up it will have you going around in circles.
Win 7 RC is a great OS - it even runs some of my old 15 year old Win 95 software with no problems.

This is a brand new Dell Studio 17 laptop and I haven't done much of anything to it yet. I bought it specifically for using Sony Vegas Movie Platinum Pro 9 on it. I just can't believe I can't even get to 1st base. I'm going to keep trying. What is Windows 7 RC??? Is that a PC OS or is it something for like MAC users? Thanks

Look at the name of this forum.
This is a forum for users of Microsoft's Windows 7 operating system.
Win 7 RC is shorthand for Microsoft Windows Seven Release Candidate (RC) which is a free (until June of 2010) trial version of Windows Seven.

For starters any Dell PC is going to be loaded with JUNK software. I know your main interest is getting your Vegas working, and it should have loaded an run fine right out of the box. Since it did not - and it were me - I would clean the hard drive off completely, re-format it and load just your Vista operating system back on to it from the Dell backup-disk (but do not use the Dell system restore because that would put all the Dell junk back on.) And then run Windows update before re-loading any applications you want back on - including Vegas.
Yes that is a lot of work - but you will have a nice clean system that will run faster and better without all the Dell junk.
I am not going to suggest you load and run Win7 - even though I think it is far better than Vista, because it will commit you to purchasing the Release version of Win 7 in the Fall.

Here is what I posted in another forum. After installing the vcredist that is in with the rest of the install files you have to hand register the DLLs as administrator:

Looks like you have probably already installed the vc runtimes as suggested above. If not they should be located in with the install files. vcredist_x86.exe or something. Right click it and choose Run As Administrator.

With that done and the program installed as administrator (Yes you will get the registration errors but the program IS installed, just some of the sound filter plugins won't work yet).Now, open a command prompt as administrator: Right click the "Command Prompt" executable( start->all programs->command prompt) and select Run as Administrator.

Now CD to the filters folder: C:\Program Files (x86)\Sony\Shared Plug-Ins\Audio assuming you installed in the normal path. Now for every file in the folder (should be 8 or 9 dll files) type the following:regsvr32 "dll name" (I.e. "regsvr32 sffrgpnv.dll" and hit enter)

I have a lot of Sony software and I have never had to do an administrator registration of .dlls.
That includes installing Sony Sound Forge 7, Cinescore, Vegas Pro 7, 8, 9, ACID Music Studio 7 and 8, and DVD Author 4 & 5 on Windows XP home, Vista Ultimate, and now Wiindows Seven RC.
They have all installed with out a hitch.

I'm not the only one with the problem.It depends on what other software you have or have not installed already and the fact that the vegas 8 instaler does not run properly in non-administrator mode (or even in admin mode when in user acount mode).By installing other sony software you probably already had the runtimes installed by a newer and better written sony installer so by the time you got to vegas it went ok. The DLLs are all shared across a lot of sony software and were probably also already installed by a non broken installer. so that by the time you got to the broken vegas 8 installer it skipped the steps that are causing other people trouble.Everyone's setup is different and what software has or has not been installed by the time they install vegas 8 is different. ALL of the problems stem from not having the right SxS c libs installed and mis handling of admin prviledges used by the installer. It's a very common problem and was one of the bigger "problems" with vista when it first came out.There is nothing specifically wrong with my W7 install.

I appreciate the effort in explaining all that to me but I did try this as well and it tells me "The module "sffrgpnv.dll" failed to load check path or debug it or something like that. I tried several of them and it says the same thing with them all. What a nightmare. I have emailed Sony Creative Software and they have yet to email me back.

I ordered my laptop without pre-loaded software to have more HD space. I don't have any "JUNK" to be causing this problem. I have done the Windows updates and downloaded the Quicktime and Microsoft DirectX 9 or whatever they say this program needs. Also, I only came to this forum because I finally found someone who was having the same problems I was. Sorry about my ignorance of the reason for its purpose in the first place. But....its nice to know that next year I'll probably have to go through all this nonsense again to keep up the "more current windows operating system" or I won't be able to download stuff before long. Thanks anyway for your help.

C++ Redistributable comes with a driver for the HTC SHIFT, the 2005 version and it seems too old to be requiered in win7, do you think downloading and installing the 2008 version is a better way to go or should i stick with the one that comes with the driver?

When it comes to the redistributable files, you need the one that comes with whatever program requires them.

After you install enough software you will eventually have the 2003 version 2005, 2008, and soon the 2010 versions all installed "Side by Side". In fact each of those versions can have 2-3 version themselves which also get installed side by side

Vegas 8 requires the 2005 ones installed which installing "as administrator" went just fine on W7. I think someone said Vegas 9 used the 2008 ones.

1. Download the Windows Installer Cleanup utility.
2. Install it.
3. Launch it. Scroll down and select any "Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable" entries you see (should be only one).
4. Select it, and remove it using the utility.
5. Once it is gone, re-extract the vegas setup files through main vegas extracter, and let it automatically launch the setup when it is done. When it tells you to install Visual C++ press install, and it will do the rest. Then it will register the modules and everything will be viola.

I learned this the long, hard, and painful way.
