Im on my Satellite series Toshiba laptop, it originally came with windows 8 when i bought it but for some reason windows 8 just dissapeared and it said that there was nothing to boot and to restart the system. So my friend let me borrow his windows 7 download CD and so far im at the point where it says where do u want to install windows. When i click on Disk0 Unallocated Space and hit next it says it was unable to create a new system partition or locate an existing system partition, and it also says windows cannot be installed to this disk and when i click on that it says Ensure that the disks controller is enabled in the computers BIOS menu. I don't know what to do at this point, and i need help, please reply soon.

Do you have a Product Key for Windows 7 that you can use to activate this Windows 7 installation you are attempting?

If not, there's no point in continuing. You'd need to go back to Windows 8 somehow.

You can't just "borrow" a Windows 7 installation disc and expect it to work if you don't have your own license and Product Key.

I dont have anything, i lost it all, like all the recovery CD's and everything. The CD he gave me was just a basic windows 7 install so i figured it would work. It has worked only up till this point in which i dont know what to do.

Give up on Windows 7 since you don't have a license or Product Key. You'll never be able to activate it even if you get it installed. It would quit working due to the lack of activation.

You probably need to contact Toshiba and buy a set of recovery disks. Might be 30 dollars or something like that.

Your Toshiba probably had a recovery partition on it that would restore you to factory state with Windows 8, just like your recovery disks would do.

We have no way of knowing if that recovery partition is still there and working. We'd need a screen shot of Windows Disk Management to determine that, but I guess you can't boot at all because "Windows 8 just disappeared" and you are lost somewhere midway in a Windows 7 installation that will get you nowhere regardless.

I'd contact Toshiba and buy new recovery disks.

What is the full, complete model number. We can check the online users guide to see how the recovery process would normally be started. Might get lucky and it will work.

You really should have created the recovery DVD set when you first got the machine.

Hi there.

Before you start on reinstalling windows 7, i suggest you can check on the boot sequence to make sure that your laptop is booting from the HDD and nowhere else. Check to make sure that all USB removable devices are unplugged and try rebooting. I dont believe that your windows 8 did a self disappearing magic trick on you. ;)

You can use the Windows 8 license which came with the PC and which is embedded in the BIOS to Clean Install - Windows 8.

The tutorial will open you up to Eight Forums where you can Join to ask for further help in the tutorial Comments section, including what access they can give you to Windows 8 installation media to do the clean reinstall. If you own a Windows 7 license we can do that here, so I'd imagine they have similar support.
