Can't load driver for Xonar card

Cannot remember where my post is but I have just finished my Ivy Bridge build to go - not fully finished.

Now I am trying ti install a driver for an Asus Xonar sound card and I keep getting a message to check my front panel configuration is to HD or AC.

The board is an Asus P8Z77-V and I have checked in the BIOS that the peripheral setup is set to HD and as far as I can see it should just install the driver but I keep getting this now very irritating message.

The Xonar GUI is ok but no sound!!

Any help please ?

Something is not playing well since the front panel should not interfere with the Xonar card and its driver working unless you haven't disabled the onboard sound in the BIOS (HD Audio Controller).

if you are saying it is asking whether HD or AC, it neeeds to be HD. Mine always asked that question and only HD would work.

EDIT: you do have the front panel connector connected to the Xonar, right? Mine never worked for the speakers, only the F Panel audio connections.

Hum something odd going on here the card GUI is up now but no sound if the speaker system is plugged into the card or back panel socket.

Now I know (the same) card I have in my Sandy Bridge build works fine from the card and ? cuts out the board (Gigabyte H67) audio. Now the front panel has never worked on that machine either. If I want to hear phones I have to plug them into the speaker socket on the card.

Now the Ivy B set up I have the HD set in the UEFI it looks like it is the default but I just cannot get the driver to install it keeps asking me that question and as far as I can see the front panel is configured.

The onboard audio is fine but I would like the Xonar to work because of the mixing etc
I did contact Asus with the problem and all I got back was the questionnaire re how good was their support? Frankly I am getting a little tired of this Asus board - seems to be two steps forward and four back.

I am wishing now I had gone Gigabyte and if push comes to shove then that is what I'll do and wait till I can afford it - a decent one.

John, that is exactly the way my Asus Xonar worked on every board I put it in. It has never worked from the back panel connection. It automatically takes over the FP though, nothing you can do about it. You may have to plug the headphones to the front and click the start button, type sound in the search box and select change sound card settings. I made the speakers (plugged into the on board sound) default and the Xonar for the headphones the default communication devices. That was the only way I could get it to work on 3 motherboards. I really don't think it is the board. I think it is the card. It worked the same on 3 boards from 2 manufacturers.

EDIT: I'm not sure it matter to the card. It takes over the sound anyway. When I plugged the FP sound into the Realtek on board sound, the sound card settings said it was the Xonar running it. Maybe I did something wrong, but I think I set it up every way possible and the results were the same. You'll get no better support from Gigabyte than Asus. They're all the same. Plus, I think they all use the same Realtek sound on board, which may be the problem.

Well it is such a convoluted set up Steve I have the phones working from the front panel by disabling the Xonar - which has now disappeared from the Sounds listing.

So now I have no speakers working at the back look mate if it were not for the pleasant ability to customise the sound like you can with the Xonar I would not bother with it. It is a real shame that the onboard audio has not got that capability eh?

OOps now have lost the flipping front panel - hey this is fun eh? :sarc:

The DG is supposed to have headphone detection so should disable the speakers when you plug in the headphones.

Ok I'll try that if I can get the thing back and on the Ivy Bridge I did try that but nothing. The trial I am doing now is in my Sandy Bridge.
