Can't Make Certain Changes to Desktop

I recently acquired a virus that I've now taken care of, but it seems to have left my computer damaged. I can't change my wallpaper, for one. And whenever I save or upload something (for example, when I want to upload a video on to youtube and you get that window pop-up where it gives you the option to upload something from a certain location), the location for desktop is completely missing when I use one of my browsers - I can't access it at all.

I've also noticed recently that I can't even make changes to my desk top icons. I arrange it by date -for instance- and when I restart the computer, it goes back to the way it was before the change?!

Anyone here experience anything like this? I'm not that tech-savvy, so please bare with me, and if you have any suggestions as to what I should do please outline it step by step (where to go, what to look for, click, etc...Again, my knowledge of computers is very limited, sorry)

Thanks in advance!

One more thing you could try before a Clean or Repair install is an SFC Scan, it will repair some files the virus may have corrupted.

If you used just one antivirus to deal with this nasty, it's possible it didn't remove all of the virus. It's not a bad idea to use multiple scans as each antivirus tool may find something that others are not able to find/remove. A couple of free on demand scanners you might consider:

Malwarebytes

Hitman Pro

Comodo Cleaning Essentials

Make sure you update each data base and run the full scans.
