folder options>>general>>open each folder in the same window>>apply>>ok

My friend tells me that it might be a virus that affecting the netbook's system. but when i run a full scan using Avast and Microsoft security essentials, there is no virus found. I don't know what to do. I also try some remedy that the internet suggested but it didn't work. hope you help me.

And one thing more, I cant eject a removable devices using the hidden icon at the taskbar and none of any device that I have inserted can't be viewed through this way.

I don't know the cause of these problems because it is not only I who use this netbook so please help me.

Welcome to Seven forums ikki11.
Check with other users and find out what they may have done, re: installed software, fooled with Windows settings, etc. If you have a custom theme installed it can cause similar problems too.
Run this http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1538-sfc-scannow-command-system-file-checker.html#post14392 I it finds violations, reboot and run at least 3 time with reboots between each run.
Let us know the results.

Do you have an active anti-virus installed?

can't open a folder in the same window

thanks for the response. I have done what you have told me to do but my problem is still the same. The first time I use the sfc /scannow, it detects some problems at first scan and said that the systems resolved some issues in the system encountered. The next 2 scans says "Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations". What should I do next?

Yes, I have 2 anti-virus software installed. the avast and microsoft security essentials. Does this affect the system? as I have said earlier, I run a full system scan using these softwares and they both says "no threat found".

thanks in advance! :)

ikki11,

You cannot have two antivirus programs running at the same time. (Some other types of security programs can be running at the same time, but not antivirus programs.) Both MSSE and Avast are antivirus programs and have good reputations. Choose one of them and remove (or at least disable) the other.

There are all kinds of unpredictable problems caused by conflicts when running both at the same time. See if that solves your problem, or any other problems you may be experiencing.

Hello :),

Perhaps your computer is infected with an autorun.inf? Can we check that your drive does not contain any autorun.inf?
1) Open "Control Panel"
2) Open "Folder Options"
3) Select the tab "View" and from advanced settings select the following

  • Show hidden files and folders
4) Make sure to uncheck the following and click OK

  • Hide protected operating system files
5) Now after you have done this Open "My Computer"
6) Right-click the drive, If you can see Autoplay or something similar then it's infected with an autorun.inf. If not then click on "Explore"
7) Search for Autorun.inf in that dirve, If not found make sure that "Show hidden files and folders" is checked, Again. (Some viruses restores the settings that you did before)

If you could find the autorun.inf reboot in safemode and do a system scan using anti-virus program or Anti-Malware, IOBit Malware Fighter and Malware-Bytes are two great applications for your problem.

NOTICE: You must boot in safemode if you could find the autorun.inf on your drive

If you could NOT find the autorun.inf file then Open Folder Options and from the GENERAL Tab select "Open each folder in the same Window"

I hope you find my post useful :)
Thank you

Please note:
JoeMJV said that the presence of autorun.inf means that you are infected. That may or may not be true. It is true that malware can use an autorun.inf file, but don't panic. Autorun.inf can be innocent! It can be used to automatically play a CD/DVD for example.

Joe's recommendation to run anti-malware programs is a reasonable plan. Malwarebytes is an excellent program. I am not familiar with the other.

If you are not an advanced user, I strongly recommend that you do not attempt to proceed beyond running the two programs Joe recommended without guidance from someone experienced in advanced malware removal techniques. The results could be disastrous.

I will check with the staff on this forum to find out if it is permissible to recommend a place to go for the advanced malware removal techniques. Meanwhile, have you disabled or removed one of your anativirus programs?

The forum rules do not allow me to recommend a web site to guide you through a malware removal procedure. That is really not a bad rule. I suspected that would be the rule in effect. That is why I asked before directing you elsewhere.

Britton30,

with all due respect:
The rule on helping with malware removal in this forum is well founded. Without advanced training and experience in malware removal, a computer can be rendered useless. No one wants a door stop that costs as much as a computer.

The time and effort required to recover from that by yourself is pretty intense. The cost to have a pro do it can be range from $45 to over $200 (depending what has to be done) in my local market area.

No web site wants to have a reputation for putting a member in this scenario. Additionally this type of task is beyond the scope of this web site. There are several good websites which specialize in malware removal.

Dr Pepper, see the Security section, they do it all the time. Jacee and Corrine continually provide help with malware without making "door stops", as you put it.

Lets try something simple before we panic.

Open Windows Explorer. From the action Bar select Organize->Folder and Search options.

In the General tab look at the Browse Options. See if you have Open each folder in its own window checked.

Britton30,

Forgive me if I misunderstood your comment about not being to help further. In my brief examination of the system security forum I did not see the use of advanced, specialized manual tools like root kit killers. Tools of this type are the ones I was referring to. If used improperly, they can destroy an OS. I have observed the results when friends have tried to use them.

Recommending a specific procedure is fine.

It's just not allowed to redirect traffic to another site to say tell our members to get help there instead with no further instruction, or to just simply promote the site. ;)

IOBit Maleware fighter has got a Real-Time Protection as any good Anti-virus application. So I think that IOBit Maleware fighter is a good anti-maleware and scanner, but it has got no firewall.

I think that COMODO would be better with its Defense+ feature. I recommend you use a good anti-virus with a good firewall to help protect your system. A good anti-virus is the anti-virus that meets your computer requirements and make you satisfied. For me, COMODO serves me perfectly. After doing a simple scan with COMODO, I tried with other softwares like Avira and KasperSky to re-scan my system then I found nothing. My PC usage is even 3% and its really fast with COMODO. COMODO does not eat your RAM like other most anti-viruses do. and I think that COMODO is a good anti-virus :)

You must try it!

But if you are searching for an Anti-Maleware application you can use MalewareBytes or IOBit fighter. Though ANTI-VIRUS applications can sometimes be better.

NOTE THAT: You can not use more than 1 anti-virus or anti-maleware on your system as it might cause system instability and unexpected errors to happen.

Thank you! :)
