can't open a .PST in 2010

I have just installed Outlook 2010, previously using 2003. In 2003, I could open any .PST file and then drag and drop messages or folders from the newly opened .PST to the existing .PST. Then, I could close the newly opened .PST.

I wanted to use that feature to move my emails and folders from 2003 to 2010. However, when I tried, I got the error message that said: "File access is denied. You do not have permission to access the .PST file."

Is there a fix for that? ... Or, is it just that 2010 can't read/use .PST files from 2003?

If there is no fix, please, what would be the easiest way to get my large numbers of files and folders from the 2003 into the new 2010 PST ? Do I just have to export/import individual Folders?

Thanks very much for any insight!

Bill

Looks like I'll be talking to myself on this one. :D
Turns out the old way works after all. The first two attempts apparently involved a corrupted file. 3rd time was the charm!
Thanks ... and sorry to have bothered y'all.

not sure what you did, but i'll write what i did when i had a similar problem, it might help someone else.
on account settings, choose the data tab, then add the old pst file as an additional data file.
if everything works fine, change the default file to the old one, and delete your new one.
but take all the above with caution. you might want to export import, but what i wrote worked for me twice.
