I have a program called "kmttg.jar" that I use a lot (it transfers programs between my computer and my Tivo). When I right click on the program icon either on my desktop or the taskbar (when it's running) there is no "Pin to Taskbar" option (I suppose because it's a "jar" file?). Is there any other way to pin it to the taskbar? Thanks.

Have you tried holding down the right mouse button on the icon and then dragging it up to the taskbar? Letting go of the right mouse button should offer to pin it. :)

Hello hcour.

That does work for some shortcuts.

Yeah, I tried that. Either button, when I drag it to the taskbar it shows the "Not Allowed" symbol thingy.

Is it the actual program or a shortcut to the program?

Just out of curiosity I downloaded the program, and I am also unable to pin the jar file. I'm trying a few things. I'll get back to you if I find a solution :)

Ok so here's how I got around it...

I renamed kmttg.jar to kmttg.exe.
Right clicked on kmttg.exe and selected "Pin to Taskbar"
In the taskbar, right click on it and then right click on kmttg.exe and go to Properties.
While the properties window is open go back to where the file is on the desktop (or where ever you have it) and rename it back to kmttg.jar.
In the Properties windows that's still open, change the .exe to .jar at the end of the line in the Target file.

This seems like an odd workaround, but it does work. Sadly, when you run it, it does not group the window with the pinned file. It opens a new window.

I would try a shortcut with a java command line to run the jar file, which I think might make it work properly. My guess is that only executable files can be pinned.
