I bought a new laptop with Win 7 home premium 64 bit and tried to install some of my games.
Starcraft 2 and Company of heroes wont connect online in order to install/update etc.

If I try to install sc2 it will say "Unable to Connect. It needs online connection in order to install..." etc
I checked my firewall and it says those programs are allowed, so idk whats the problem.

Any ideas? thanks

EDIT: Since I'm asking about my laptop, i'll ask 1 more. I have firefox, chrome and IE and they were working fine, but 1 day suddenly chrome and IE wont connect to the internet as if the whole internet was down. My firefox is fortunate enough to work as intended and no i did not configure anything in my chrome and IE. please lord help my laptop.

I am guessing you have no problems connecting and navigating the internet and the problems is only with those games? Are those Ubisoft games by any chance? if so, it wouldn't surprise in the least that their servers were down.

Since your Chrome and IE died two,I guess it's much more an OS problem. So you'd better find the problem on your system first.

Hi total90,

This is quite the puzzling issue. I believe you've been compromised by malware; can you think of any other reasons why your browsers would crash? Have you downloaded through any P2P torrent services (LimeWire/Morpheus) lately? I'd recommend you run a scan with Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, and then reinstall your browsers.

I'd like to ask you to download and install an application known as Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, as it will be a necessary tool for cleaning your system.

Please execute the following instructions:

  • Double-click the 'mbam-setup.exe' file to install this application.
  • Ensure a check mark is placed in the radio box next to 'Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware' and please also make sure that there is a check mark in the radio box next to 'Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware'
  • Click 'Finish'
    • Note: If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version. Please do not interrupt this process.
  • Once the program has loaded, please ensure a check mark is placed in the radio box next to 'Perform Full Scan' (not Perform Quick Scan) and proceed by clicking on 'Scan'.
    • Note: The scan may take some time, so please be patient and wait for it to finish. Please stop all current downloads while your scan is in progress, as this may corrupt the results.
  • When the scan is complete, click 'OK' and then click 'Show Results' to view the results.
  • Make sure that everything is checked, and proceed by clicking 'Remove Selected'
  • Once disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to restart your machine. If you are asked to restart, please do so.
    • Note: The log is automatically saved by Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and can be viewed by clicking on the 'Logs' tab in the main interface.
Thanks,
Harvey Meale

ok, now that i have some of my programs' updates blocked as well, i believe its really sth in my comp blocks the internet. like my logitech mouse updater will show up telling me to update, but the page within the program is blank and says im not connected to the internet, which i am in fact connected.

lets say i want to re-format my whole laptop.what will i need? is it safe to do so?
