Can't save files

I have a new Windows 7 laptop from my work. I can open files (Word, Excel, Adobe and so on) on the server but when I try to save them it seems to be hit and miss. Most of the time I get a flag that says the file can't be saved because it is in use already. I can usually save it to my HD by renaming it but this is inconvenient. How do I resolve this?

Can you save to the server if you append the filename with a number?

Yes, I can save the file if I change the name in any manner.

This problem occurs sporadically and is not limited to Word, it also happens with Excel, Adobe and once in a while other programs. The message I get is that the file can't be saved because it is already in use. I can save the files if I re-name them i.e. add a number for reference in the fie name. When I change the file name I can then save it to my local HD or back to the serve. I'm not sure if it is seeing the file open in two places i.e. the server and my laptop at the same time or maybe a sharing permission issue.

I though about a permission issue but I believe it tells yopu if you have read only permissions before you open them. To check your permissions on the file, right click the file, go to properties and then security. If you have an IT Department, ask them to double check for you.

Do a disk cleanup and clear your temp files. It is possible that the link I sent you is what is happening.
