Hello,
Just installed Windows 7 and my spare hard drive connected through onboard promise controller wont show up. It is there in bios and works if I boot into windows XP.

I have ASUS A8V Deluxe Motherboard. (Socket 939)

Not really sure what to try with Windows 7; any suggestions?

Is the onboard promise controller a raid controller? Have you installed the driver for it?

Here is where we could help you more if you fill in your system specs (lower left corner) because I dont know if you are 32 bit or 64m and ram, etc. if you need help finding them let us know.

The raid driver if you are 64 bit can be found @asus here http://support.asus.com/download/download_item.aspx?product=1&model=A8V Deluxe

BTW raid drivers in 64bit can be problematic

Hope this helps

They should really post a sticky "If you don't see a Windows 7 driver, try the Vista driver" :D.

Assuming you are not using the drives on it in RAID, you need the normal ATA drivers for it and the only way it will install it is if you choose everything manually when updating the driver for it - as Windows 7 has the same issue Windows XP & Vista had with it - doesn't work with their internal drivers which Windows tries to superseed instead of the real driver. Then when you get the choice to choose Vendor from the list, choose "Have Disk" and then choose the driver from the location you have it and you thereby force it through.

Also there's the compatibility issue you can try - See this thread for it ->Here<-
