Can't seem to rename files in AVG Rescue

I am following this guide . I am on step 4 and I seem to be stuck. For some reason when I press the F6 key it won't let me rename the file. I am trying to get into safe mode , that's what I am trying but the last file that is loading is avgidsha.sys . After that it just reboots. I have a feeling that that is causing Windows not to boot properly. This is an HP Laptop by the way.

Q 2. If Windows 7, is it 32-bit, or 64-bit?

Q 3. Do you have the Repair your computer option in the Advanced Boot Options menu?

To find out:
Restart the computer.

• As soon as the BIOS is loaded begin tapping the F8 key until the Advanced Boot Options menu appears.
• Is the Repair your computer option listed?

Q 4. If you do not have the option above, do you have your Windows installation CD/DVD available?

Q 5. Do you have a USB pendrive?

I seem to have got it man. I have Windows 7 x64 and yes I do have the installation CD. however it's not working for some strange reason. Safe mode will still not boot up or regular windows.It seems to me that this laptop is gone.

You may want to print these instructions so you can have access to follow them. Also, you may want to read them once befor you apply them.

Please plug a flash drive into a clean computer.
Go to Start > Computer
Double-click Computer, and select the flash drive.
Right-click and select: Format
Press Start on the Format prompt.
Remove when done.

Use the following: Farbar Recovery Scan Tool Download
Select the 64-bit download.
Save the program to the >> USB flash drive
Next, plug the flash drive into the infected computer.





To enter System Recovery Options using the Windows Seven Installation Disc:

• Insert the installation disc.
• Restart your computer.
• If prompted, press any key to start Windows from the installation disc. If your computer is not configured to start from a CD or DVD, check your BIOS settings.
• Click Repair your computer.
• Choose your language settings, and then click: Next
• Select the Operating System you want to repair, and then click: Next
• Select your user account and click: Next

Or, to enter System Recovery Options using the F8 key:

• As soon as the BIOS is loaded begin tapping the F8 key until the Advanced Boot Options menu appears.
• Use the arrow keys to select the Repair your computer menu item.
• Select your language settings, and click: Next
• Select your User account and click: OK (If you did not set a password, leave blank.)

On the System Recovery Options menu you get the following options:

• Startup Repair
  [*]System Restore
  [*]Windows Complete PC Restore
  [*]Windows Memory Diagnostic Tool
  [*]Scan your computer's memory for errors.
  [*]Command Prompt

Select: Command Prompt

• In the Command window, at the bliking cursor type notepad and press: Enter
• In Notepad, under the File menu select: Open
• Double-click Computer, find the flash drive letter, remember what letter it is, click on it, and press: Open
• Close out of Notepad.
• Click the Command window
• Type g:\frst64.exe, and press: Enter
  Note: Replace the drive letter g with the drive letter of your flash drive!
• The tool starts and prepares to run. Follow the prompts.
• Click Yes to the disclaimer.
• Press: Scan

The program saves the FRST.txt report, on the flash drive.
Close Notepad, then, click the Command prompt window, and type exit, and press: Enter
[*]Back at the System Recovery Options, press: ShutDown.
[/list]Return to the clean computer, and plug in the USB pendrive. It contains a FRST.txt report

Unfortunately I don't have a usb stick .I know the problem occurs at Classpnp.sys file in safemode.

See if you can do this...

Boot with the Windows 7 DVD, or use F8 (whichever works)
If from DVD, when prompted, press any key, and follow the instructions that appear.
On the Install Windows page, click: Repair your computer

Select the Windows installation you want to repair, and then click: Next
On the System Recovery Options menu, click on: System Restore

Can you restore to an earlier Restore Point?

System Restore should work like if you had booted into Windows, but instead, you are using System Recovey Options.

That's the problem. It would of been so easy if they setup a restore point but they didn't.

Go to the Command Prompt in the System Recovery Options. Use F8, or use the DVD. Whatever gets you there.
In the Command Prompt, are you at C:/Windows/system32

If not, type in the following and press Enter: cd C:\Windows\System32

At C:\Windows\System32, type in the following and press Enter: dir drivers

You will get a long string of stuff, which are the contents of the Drivers directory.

Go down the list, and see if you can find any entries that start with avgxxx.sys (xxx = anything, e.g. avgldx86.sys, avgtdix.sys, etc.) They should be at the top of the list.

Take note of them, and post back on what they are.

Alright for sure. Thanks for the help man. Although I think I deleted the whole Entire AVG folder because I kept on researching and it told me to get rid of the folder if you have that error

All these used to be sys but I changed the extension because I read somewhere that they have to be changed in order for windows to boot.

Type: cd "c:\program files"
At C:\Program Files, type: dir

You will get another list. Is the Directory for AVG there?

Now type in: cd "c:\program files (x86)"
At c:\program files (x86), type: dir

Another list. Is there a Directory for AVG there also?

I am not sure what kind of model it is and yes Windows 7 won't start up. I tried all the methods . Would you like to see the blue screen of death error? . Maybe that will help a lot.

Look at the bottom of the laptop it should tell you the model number .
