I took everything back to the guy I got the computer from and it looked like the problem must be the monitor.
So I stopped at Goodwill on the way home and found a nice 17" Dell for $9.99.
Works great. Everything looks good. And the old one was only 14".

I certainly never knew static electricity would make a keyboard useless.
