I read in another post how to go into the group policy editor and enable the setting "turn off the caching of thumbnails in hidden thumbs.db files" and "Turn off caching of thumbnail pictures"

With both enabled as instructed I am finding in C:\Users\****\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Explorer folder that some thumbnails are created when I open picture folders on my drive and a few when I open photo folders on an external drive.

I was under the impression that .db folder wouldn't be created or added to once these setting were changed. What am I missing or is this something unique to my machine.

Thanks in advance!

Is the .db file changing or are thumbnail files being added to the folder?

It's quite possible that whatever application you're using to open files is creating the thumbnails there.

The thumbnails are added to prexisting .db files simply by opening the folder where this pictures are located with windows explorer.

If you use 3 or 4, it negates 1 and 2, according to the tutorial.

Got it, so since I don't care for options 1 & 2 will use 4. Thanks again.

You said earlier that neither 3 nor 4 worked for you.

For some reason it wouldn’t work when using method 3 or 4 but now they work.
