Solved Can't UNinstall MicroSoft Office Home and Student 2007 - Error 1402

msOffice Home and Student 2007' is still in Add/Remove pgms.

Skill level: I am a senior citizen, so, not as sharp as I used to be. That's why I am willing to buy Revo_UninstallerPRO, and be done with it. If it will do the trick.
As far as I can recall, Windows Installer Cleanup utility (MSICUU2.exe) is no longer recommended.

vmars, I am also a Senior Citizen - be brave!
Just follow the instructions carefully - I often print them out (I find them easier to follow in 'hard copy' ;) )

Now, just touch the blue link below - I know it looks like a lot of reading, but look for the bits referring to Office 2007.
I would suggest that you try using the 'Fix-it' for Office 2007 included in the list - I have included it below as a quote from the Article:
How do I uninstall Office 2003, Office 2007 or Office 2010 suites if I cannot uninstall it from Control Panel?

You can uninstall the Microsoft Office system by going to the appropriate "Fix it for me" section that matches your version of Microsoft Office. The Fix It solutions below do not remove any Office program that was installed separately from the Office suite. For example, if you have Microsoft Office Professional 2007 and Microsoft Office Visio 2007 installed on your computer, the Fix It solution only removes Microsoft Office Professional 2007 from your computer. Visio 2007 will not be removed. Additionally, you must reboot your machine if you use one of the Fix it solutions below.

Notes:
  • The wizard may be in English only; however, the automatic fix also works for other language versions of Windows.
  • If you are not on the computer that has the problem, save the Fix it solution to a flash drive or a CD and then run it on the computer that has the problem.
  • For users who are running a Windows 64-bit operating system please download and save the Fix It solution to your desktop and double-click and run it on your computer. If you try to run the solution directly from the article you will have problems running it correctly.
Office 2007 suites

To uninstall the 2007 Microsoft Office suite automatically, click the Fix this problem button or link. Click Run in the File Download dialog box, and then follow the steps in the Fix it wizard.

Hello Vernon -

I'm thinking out loud here. I feel your frustration as I had similar problems when I purchased an HP (Compaq) laptop that had all kinds of pre-installed programs. I read your original post and this may be a clue...you posted:

"It came installed on my Sony Laptop
and I foolishly tried to run it. "

With my Compaq, HP loaded a "utility" that would automatically update all of the crap they loaded and reload things I tried to remove (from their default load). The reload came from the hidden "restore" partition, not from the C:\ drive - maybe that's why you can't find an msi file.

I don't have a Sony laptop so I can't say this is happening to you but you might look into it.

Regards,
GEWB

Here is another Microsoft solution for your problem:
How to manually uninstall the 2007 Office system if you cannot uninstall it by using the "Add or Remove Programs" feature

Did you try the one in my earlier post?
Yes, I tried them all.

Hmm, it may be you have deleted the msoffice uninstaller somewhere along the line.
That sounds plausible.

Irene:
Your solution worked great!
No more msOffice in Add/Remove.
mrFixit history with me was not so good.
Anyways, I opted to let MrFixit try it.

Thanks all...vmars

OH, here is the some of the console from mrFixit
the C:\windows\system32\cscript.exe
3 things failed:

62: Close enough.
I'm 68 and still learning.
Reading has always been a prob for me.
I am more of a visual learner, show me a diagram.

One thing that throws me is DOCs that are not consistent.
For example:
I have never created a system recovery disc.
But I am working on it. What slows me down is where msDocs Help
refers to a 'system recovery disc' in one place
and in another place it talks about a 'system repair disc'.
I suspect that they are the same thing.
But I dont KNOW that they are, til I ask.
Btw: Are they the same?

Anyways, thanks for your helps!

"System Recovery" refers to a disk the the manufacturer supplies which will put the PC back to factory condition. "System Repair Disk" is one you create in Windows to help you boot into repair options if your PC becomes unusable.
