Three laptops in the house and every one has some seemingly unfixable problems. Two are hardware-related and I am trying to fix the third one, a Lenovo G570. Have fresh installed Windows 7 on it. After the first reinstall, the display adapter did not have a driver. It reverted to the SVGA adapter and produced a horizontally stretched screen. Once I allowed it to search for a driver, it found one and everything was fine, horizontal stretch problem fixed. In transferring information from the old computer, too many problems were created, so I reinstalled Windows a second time. Now it shows the driver is installed for VGA and the horizontal stretch persists. I have research this problem extensively and tried several fixes but none worked.
1. Disabling and uninstalling adapter and driver repeatedly fails—restart always brings back adapter and driver. This is often cited as a problem in several forums.
2. Have tried a third reinstall. No luck and it created a third word.old folder, which I have finally been able to nearly delete completely, after signing in as administrator.
3. I have tried to eliminate all forms of the driver on the machine, deleting various drivers folders, searching for it and running Display Driver Uninstaller. The driver remains. The driver information is C\sytem32\DRIVERS\vgapnp.sys (with some tiny certificate-looking icon before it). I have removed every detectable folder and driver that resembles this. After searching, there does not appear to be any folder or driver left that has this name. Still, the driver keeps coming back. From where?
Hope I can get some help—the frustration level is pretty high. Thanks.
