Hi.

I have d/l-ed a .zip file sent to me by a colleague that was zipped on his Mac. I have confirmed that the .zip file size is correct. When I open the file, I se the various folders it contains, but am unable to unzip it. I have tried WinRAR, 7-Zip, and WinZip, but to no avail. I do not know anyone with a Mac. Was hoping someone might have a suggestion or two

Thanks in advance.

I think you are jumping to conclusions blaming the mac platform. I'm into graphic art, where a large number of people use Apple. We swap rar + zip all the time, never even knowing what OS the sender or recipient is using. I'd get him to redo the zip and resend.

No, I am not.

The person on the other end is able to unzip on his Mac, and therefore - according to him - the zip is fine, and the problem is Windows.

Thanks for trying :)

Found someone with a Mac - and he was unable to unzip there. Looks like the file is indeed corrupt... not sure why my colleague was able to unzip tho....

Thanks.

Was the Mac person unzipping the original file still on his hard-drive? And, were you and your other friend using a copy sent via IM or email? Reason for asking: a received file may not be exactly the same as the original file [there's a geek term for that, something about the bytes not matching up between the original and the received].

He claims that he d/l-ed the file first. No reason to not believe him there.

were you and your other friend using a copy sent via IM or email?

No - wetransfer.

a received file may not be exactly the same as the original file

True. However, the file size that I d/l-ed, and the file size of the original on my colleague's HDD are identical - right down to the last byte. Is it possible that the received file could still be different if the above is true?

Thanks for responding.
