Can't wake from S3 with keyboard or LAN - tried all "solutions"

This problem has been annoying me since weeks. I've spent countless hours looking for solutions on google and i can't fix it.

My HTPC can go in S3 standby mode successfully. BUT the only way to wake my computer is to press the power button. When i wake it up, it starts where it was before so S3 mode is working. Problem is just waking it up.

The weirdest thing is that it USED to work. Around 2 months ago i was waking up my computer with my keyboard and it worked. But i stopped to use this feature, and now that i need it, it isn't working anymore.

Oh, also wake-on-LAN isn't working neither. And it also used to be working 2 months ago. I really don't know what happenned.

Here's a couple of screenshots. Sorry my windows is in french, but i'll translate the text for you:

wake1.jpg

Picture from my BIOS

wake2.jpg

Device manager -> Keyboard -> Power management
>>> Option "Allow this device to wake computer from standby mode" is checked
>>> Option "allow computer to turn off this device to save energy" is unchecked and greyed out

wake3.jpg

Device manager -> Network cards -> Realtek PCIe -> Advanced
>>> Wake on pattern match : ACTIVATED
>>> Wake on Magic Packet : ACTIVATED

Can't see it on screenshot but the option "Stop wake on LAN" is DISABLED (i also tryed to turn it on but it doesn't change anything)

wake4.jpg

"powercfg -devicequery wake_armed" tells me that my keyboard is allowed to wake my computer

"powercfg -a" tells me that S3 mode is supported, but S1 and S2 is disabled (that's normal)

wake4.jpg

Power configuration :

S1 after : Never
Allow hybrid mode : Yes
S3 mode after : 60 minutes
Allow wake timers : No
Selective USB suspension : Off

My hardware:
AMD A6-3650 APU W/ AMD Radeon 65XX HD / Socket FM1 2.6GHZ 4MB 100W
Gigabyte A75M-D2H
Antec Fusion Remote Black HTPC Case
Seasonic 450w 80+Gold (fanless)
4GB G.SKILL Ripjaws X F3-12800CL9D-4GBXL DDR3-1600
Crucial M4 SSD

Solutions tryed, uncessfully:
- resetting BIOS/CMOS
- updating BIOS and all other drivers to latest versions
- disabling all other USB devices
- tryed every single USB slots, with and without USB hubs, usb2 instead of usb3 and vice-versa...
- tryed with two different power supplies
- tryed different keyboards
- tryed mouse instead of keyboard, LAN instead of USB...

Seriously..... I'M DESPERATE !!! It used to work. Why it won't work anymore :(

You could try running an energy report and see if it shows something that might cause the issue.
It's helped me a few times, but i never had your specific problem...
To get the report, from an elevated command prompt type:
Powercfg -energy

UPDATE
Did a couple of other tests using other keyboards and adapters laying around. Just found out that i can wake my computer using a PS2 keyboard. But this PS2 keyboard won't work in USB port if i use a USB to PS2 adapter.
Here is the result of my tests :

10-years old PS2 keyboard:
- PS2 Port : Able to wake PC using PS2 port
- USB Port : NOT able to wake PC using USB to PS2 adapter

(USB) "No name" cheap mini keyboard bought on ebay :
- PS2 Port : Able to wake PC using PS2 to USB adapter
- USB Port : NOT able to wake PC using USB2 or USB3 ports

(USB) Frisby cheap keyboard bought on ebay :
- PS2 Port : Able to wake PC using PS2 to USB adapter
- USB Port : NOT able to wake PC using USB2 or USB3 ports

- PS2 Port : NOT able to wake PC using PS2 to USB adapter
- USB Port : NOT able to wake PC using USB2 or USB3 ports
- This keyboard used to be able to wake my PC 2 months ago

Acer USB keyboard KU-0355
- PS2 Port : NOT able to wake PC using PS2 to USB adapter
- USB Port : NOT able to wake PC using USB2 or USB3 ports

So, i'm still not able to wake computer using USB ports, no matter what i do. Wake-on-lan still doesn't works.

Damn, my report is all in french since my windows is in french. So if i post it, you will not understand anything.

There's an error related to "selective shut-down of usb devices" feature because it is currently desactivated. Am i supposed to activate it ?

There's also an error for each of my USB controllers, saying it does not shut-down itself when not in use (this is supposed to be what i want to do, right ?)

A problem for me is i want things pretty much the opposite of what you want.
My primary is an HTPC and i don't want many things waking the PC.
I've had problems with wireless mice, network, etc., waking my PC, so i disabled most things by choice.
The only things i want (and do) wake my PC are the remote control and the power button.

RE: "selective shut-down of usb devices"

I don't find this in my energy report.
The only thing i find in my report for "selective" is:

Power Policy:USB Selective Suspend is disabled (Plugged In)
The current power policy has globally disabled USB selective suspend.
RE: "There's also an error for each of my USB controllers"
For my USB devices i get a lot of these types of errors:

USB Suspend:USB Device not Entering Suspend
The USB device did not enter the Suspend state. Processor power management may be prevented if a USB device does not enter the Suspend state when not in use.
Device Name USB Root Hub
Host Controller ID PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_4398
Host Controller Location PCI bus 0, device 18, function 1
Device ID USB\VID_1002&PID_4398
Port Path

Well i just wanted my wireless keyboard to wake the PC (like i was able to, 2 months ago). I just tested with other USB devices to try to figure what was the problem. Currently i unplugged everything except keyboard.

That's exactly what i was trying to translate ! I have the same thing in my report.

Yep, i'm also getting many of these errors. That's the other thing i was trying to translate.

So i guess my reports are all fine. All settings seems to be correct in Windows7, and it's still not working after a repair install. I think it is definatly an hardware problem, but i can't understand how it happenned suddently when it was working 2 months ago...

If all else fails there's always system recovery to try.

Hi Anarchoi. I had the same sort of problem on a newish XP system. I couldn't see the "Power Management" tab in the Device Manager to enable my USB mouse to wake the system. I did this:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\usb
"USBBIOSx"=DWORD:00000000

As suggested by Microsoft

Now all good!

Hello,

OP, did you solved your problem? I have exactly the same problem. I can even turn my computer with my USB mouse/keyboard when I do a shutdown of my PC, but, if the computer goes to sleep I cannot wake up my PC with my USB mouse/keyboard. :(
