Card Reader not recognised in 64 bit Pro

I have brand new system using a Gigabyte GA-EP45-ud3lr board with a Q8300 cpu (with VT!) - the problem is with the Silverstone FP34B card reader - device manager just shows an unrecognised PCI device -the device is plugged into a VIA USB PCI card. All USB devices/slots including those on the FP34 are working fine.

I also have Windows 7 Pro 64 bit with XP Mode installed and working.

I tried also using XP Mode but its not recognised there either.

From reading other threads is there a generic issue with card readers on 64 bit machines? Although strangely I hear rumoured that they do work on 64 bit Vista! Whats different (apart from the obvious!)?

I did try the Akasa driver mentioned in another thread but without any success - any other suggestions?

Sorry if this is a sill question, but have you downloaded and installed the drivers from the manufacturers site?

No problems in asking, however they say that the reader is automatically recognised in Vista 64, and the only driver on their site says XP SP1 required!!!

So I guess there isn't one, but I have emailed them to ask the question...........

thanks for taking interest in the question though.

Silverstone would have probably commissioned other manufacturers to make this part for them, so there may be other drivers out there that will work.
Can you have a look in device manager for any unknown devices (or your card reader if it is recognised), right click it, slect properties, details tab, select hardware id's in the drop down box and copy/paste your findings back here?
Also, I'm interested to know if you're currently using the GA-EP35C-DS3R with W7 as it seems I have both of the boards that you've mentioned (check my specs below :) ) The EP35C is my HTPC board.

Hello, Good day Oz - thank you for yr interest.

I think I may have found a driver but not sure at the moment - I tried several that didn't appear to work, after a period of being off, the PC suddenly "found" drivers on a fresh boot. Can you tell from the info below whose chip is on the card reader board?

Standard dual channel PCI/ide controller
PCI\VEN_197B&DEV_2368&SUBSYS_B0001458&REV_00
PCI\VEN_197B&DEV_2368&SUBSYS_B0001458
PCI\VEN_197B&DEV_2368&CC_010185
PCI\VEN_197B&DEV_2368&CC_0101

Regarding boards I do have the EP35C on another PC with 7 RC (multiboot with XP, Vista as well) -

JMicron Technology Corp.
Chip Number: JMB368
Chip Description: IDE Controller

It's not related to your card reader, and the JMicron chip has W7 drivers available. Has it been installed correctly now?
Can you see other unknown devices in device manager? If so, post back the same info for each of those
