I just built a new computer and need help on the best place to put an extra fan I have.
Currently I have a fan blowing air in from the front, one on the side panel blowing air in, and a fan blowing air out in the back. This Cooler Master case has two extra places on the top and a place in the bottom of the case for fans. Where would be the best place to put another fan I have and which direction should it move the air... in or out?

Thanks,

Casey

As much air as you move out of the case, you want replaced. It is also wise to keep air moving in one direction, as that will help alleviate problems with air streams hitting eachother and not being exhausted out.

Different topics still the same post :P

The best fan placement is blowing out of the hole cut in the mini fridge through the de-humidifier and into the case:)

Granted I doubt you want to go that far :P

So with just one extra fan right now should I put it on the bottom blowing in or at the top blowing out? Also I have an MSI 870-G45 MB, will I be able to hook a fourth fan straight to it or will I have to hook it straight to the power supply?

Thanks a lot for the help,

I'd vote for top blowing out. If you push air out of the top of a case, it will naturally pull air in from the front and bottom of a case...even if you don't have fans there.

Try the top exhaust first and I like to keep all my fans off the mobo. If you're air cooling then of course the CPU cooler fan runs off the dedicated mobo fan header. Second new fan place it at the bottom position as it will help bring the coolest air in other than front fans. Good luck and keep us posted !

Linnemeyerhere has got it right, if you only have 1 fan, put it on the top. You need to exhaust the incoming air from the front and carry the heat out with the back and top fans. If you get another fan, then add to the bottom. If you have 2 empty slot on the top, you definitely need the fan on the top. I believe on your case that you can use multiple 120mm fans in place of the 200's. Those would provide even more airflow.

linnemeyerhere and everyone else,

Thank you very much for the help! What the heck...fans are cheap so I am going to put 2 fans in the top blowing out and one in the bottom blowing air in. That will give me one in the front w/air in, one in the back w/air out, two in the top w/air out and one in the bottom w/air in...that will fill up all the available fan openings.

Does anyone know a good place to get that dust filter material? I had a little bit that came with the Cooler Master Elite case, but it is not enough for all the fan openings. I have cats and dogs and cat hair is not a good combination for computers.

You will only need dust filter material on the fans blowing into your case, and try Computer case fan filters in your search engine

Case1,
All three fans will greatly improve air flow and Ciara's and CarlTR6 tip on air filtration will help improve cleanliness inside the case. In regards to filter material you may be able to use simple screen door material and it's available in several styles.
