Solved cbs.log - corrupt files

I was actually planning to do a chkdsk (w.r.t: thread) as I had doubts some thing was wrong with system files & after ICit2lol assistance, I came to realize, by running SFC, I found errors.

I was not able to understand them, can some one shed some light & probably help me fix them.

Just for the info, I wasn't provided with any windows CD/DVD's when I got my laptop, as I got in a discount offer from the vendor, which already had w7 installed on it. I didn't need them so far either.

Hello goodlad,

You could do the listed items in the blue Note box under step 4 in OPTION TWO of the tutorial below to see if they may allow SFC to repair the files afterwards.

Brink, I will get to work with the tips today or 2morrow. I just had a question,
for example, one of the error, which my log shows is with "audit.exe.mui" .. Do u think by using the error fix tool: audit.exe.mui Error Fix
will have any effect on the outcome, I mean will there be any chances of fix if the step2 tips fail ?

Almost an year ago, when I accidentally deleted one of my system32 file, I had downloaded the file from this site I think & I never had an issue later on.

Brink, I tried windows patch but it didn't help. Sfcdetails.txt shows the same error msgs as I attached on this thread already. I did sfc /scannow lots of times before applying the patch, after applying the patch twice. Results didn't show any improvement I didn't the sfc at boot up though.

Instead of a restore, can I give the error fix tools a try ? May be if that doesn't work can consider restore if that too fails, may be repair or a OS reinstall ?

I've asked for some help, don't do anything rash like a reinstall, he may take a couple of days.

Sure, you could manually replace the system file if you like to see if it may help.

I'd stay away from the 'Fix ***** Error now!' tools if I were you, I don't trust them at all

While parsing a CBS log to sfcdetails.txt is a lot easier than trawling through thousands of lines of CBS log to see what files are corrupt, it cuts out some of the essential information we need to fix this. It is possible for me to recreate this information, but with multiple files corrupt it's a lot easier to get a copy of your CBS log:

Export CBS folder

1. Click the Start button
   
   then click Computer.
2. Double-click on the C: drive, under the Hard Disk Drives category, and then scroll down to, and double click on the Windows folder.
3. Find and double click on the Logs folder.
4. Right-click on the CBS folder, and select Copy.
5. Go back to your Desktop, right-click on it, and select Paste. You should now see a copy of the CBS folder appear on your Desktop called CBS.
6. Right-click on this new folder, and navigate through Send to, and select Compressed (zipped) folder.
7. A new file, also called CBS (CBS.zip), but this time with a different icon, will be created.

Tom, thanks for the detailed info. I have rarred the file instead of zipping, hope u don't mind There are 5 compressed files in the CBS dir, along with the txt file.

jfi, I didn't run any error fix tool as of now, as when I tried to install, it was some shareware software. I didn't want to risk with a 3rd party add-on

SFCFix Script

Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.

1. Download SFCFix.exe (by niemiro) and save this to your Desktop.
2. Download the file below, SFCFix.zip, and save this to your Desktop. Ensure that this file is named SFCFix.zip - do not rename it.
3. Save any open documents and close all open windows.
4. On your Desktop, you should see two files: SFCFix.exe and SFCFix.zip.
5. Drag the file SFCFix.zip onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it.
6. SFCFix will now process the script.
7. Upon completion, a file should be created on your Desktop: SFCFix.txt.
8. Copy (Ctrl+C) and Paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of this file into your next post for me to analyse please - put [CODE][/CODE] tags around the log to break up the text.

SFC Scan

1. Click on the Start
   
   button and in the search box, type Command Prompt
2. When you see Command Prompt on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator
3. When command prompt opens, copy and paste the following commands into it, press enter after each
   
   sfc /scannow
   
   Wait for this to finish before you continue
   
   copy %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log %userprofile%\Desktop\cbs.txt
   
   
4. This will create a file, cbs.txt on your Desktop. Please attach this to your next post.

Thanks Tom once again. I have downloaded the files, I just wanted to notify u, that by mistake I had all my windows open when the program opened up, as it took a while for my system to ask permission to execute the file, I forgot about closing down other windows, I was assuming may be I didn't drag the file properly. As, soon as the program began, I closed down all the windows including my FF. I just wanted to let u know, in case this would make any difference in my current outputs

I'm attaching cbs.txt file under rar file (with my personal experience in the past, I have noted when attaching .txt files at times, data gets lost in the file when the file is downloaded), as mentioned by you, after sfc scan: Download cbs.rar from Sendspace.com - send big files the easy way

Actually sfc scan didn't throw me up any error after the scan, it said & I quote "Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations"
