CCleaner Fail?

The developer replied to the thread (in minutes) and assures us the program does NOT rely on Temp Files. So the company IT which keeps telling my sister it's caused by CCleaner needs to be vetted.

It might be a case where she should have relied on Bayscribe for the support, but that this has happened twice now after using CCleaner is pretty incriminating - of one or the other.

As I said, I saw the Temp File error message with my own eyes when she tried to start the audio component of the program the morning after CCleaning her PC.

I know of one similar problem, perhaps not as serious. VB2010 creates a temporary file during it's builds, If the temp file is deleted the next time you open the project you have to rebuild the solution.


Come to think of it it wasn't CCleaner that deleted it it was a Norton utility which I don't run any more.

I don't use any VB code in the Prod Tools, it's all written in C/C++.

I have sent the person who is actually having this issue and email and if/when I get details I will respond back to this thread, hopefully with a permanent fix (although I'm not able to recreate it currently...)

I wasn't suggest this as a cause, just an illustration that even the mighty M$ can get it wrong on occasions.

In theory no, but we just don't have that many people who run Vista with BayScribe anymore. Most run XP or Win7, with the very occasional Vista system popping up now and then. I'm not aware of any outstanding issues with BayScribe on Vista, but this is the sort of thing that I'm not surprised about. I have a Vista laptop that I haven't booted in quite awhile that I will test CCleaner on as soon as I get a bit more information from your sister (IE browser version and whether or not it is a 64-bit OS and if it has all the MS updates on it.)

My take on this is that it is not CCleaner that is the problem. Temporary files are just that. No program should rely on them being there except transiently.

Greg perhaps you could install Bayscribe on your W7 machine and test it.
Being your sister I assume she has no infections?

I also agree CCleaner is not at fault here, a user for 7+ years. Disk cleanup also deletes temp files.
