Why on Earth do people use these types of products

If your registry is that "corrupted" or filled with junk -- re-install is the best option.

You never know when the latest and greatest piece of malware will find something in the registry it can use

If CC cleaner worked only 50% of the time would ANYBODY using it know whether the registry had been tidied up OK correctly or not.

I suspect even in the Microsoft development labs the number of people that could take a Registry Dump and say whether it was OK or still had stuff in it from previous software installs not being uninstalled properly could be counted with the fingers on one Hand (and that's probably before 4 of them had been cut off).

Just backup before installing "questionable" software and restore again if it doesn't work or you want to REALLY get the junk out of the registry.

Full system backup with decent backup software shouldn't take more than around 15 - 20 mins on a decent system and you should do a backup anyway.

Would you know if it's VALID, correct, Incorrect or even what it IS.

thats pretty much what i use it for. i don't expect it to be perfect but it does it job on win 7 pro 64bit
