All of a sudden these ugly box cd things popped up on my icons. The resent programs i installed where alcohol 120% and AVG free... these things are really pissing me off. I uninstalled both programs to see if they changed the icons but nope they didnt. Any setting i enabled or disabled to make this happen?

it looks like the shortcut overlay has been replaced by that cd icon. A tool like TweakUI (not sure if it works with windows 7) should be allow you to change the overlay back to the correct one.
This site has some info on how to remove the overlay, and the tool it links to may set it back to the arrow.

If you have a current system image, that will surely work. That is what I would do if my most current image were not too old.
