Hello,
I have one year old HP M9400T that I purchased with Windows Vista 64bit. I have just upgrade to Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit, and after installing Nero, I tried to burn a CD, but burning took a bout 20 minutes (I used to burn a DVD in less than 7). I checked online and saw that in many cases you need to make sure the DVD mode is set to DMA and not PIO, and this can be checked by going to device manager, and checking under IDE ATA/ATAPI Controller drivers. The problem is that my device manager doesn't have any "IDE ATA/ATAPI Controller drivers" listed. The "DVD/CD ROM drivers" is listed under device manager, and the DVD model: HL-DT-ST DVD-RAM GH15L showing that it's working properly.

Any idea why this is missing from Windows 7 device manager? or what I can do to resolve this issue?

Your help is appreciated.
Thanks.

You apparently have SATA drives rather than PATA (IDE) that the article referred to and the reason it's not listed.

A couple of things. (1) If you have chipset drivers (motherboard) reinstall them and see if that helps. (2) Uninstall the CD/DVD burner drive (or drives if you have more than one) in the Device Manager then restart the PC and when Windows starts it will detect and reinstall them.

In the Device Manager, RIGHT click on the entry for the drive(s) and then LEFT click on "uninstall". Do Not uninstall the drivers.

Thank you so much whest and fireberd !!!
Your advise was really helpful, I followed your suggestions, installed the motherboard drivers and uninstalled/reinstalled the DVD device, and the DVD burner now works fast, at least as it was on Vista, maybe a little faster. :)
I greatly appreciate your replies and am thankful for people like you who share from their knowledge to help other people.
Thanks a bunch!
