Solved CD RW EXTREMELY slow read

Sony Optiarc 24x SATA AD-7280S-OEM
(No driver updates that I could find on the Sony site.)

Took 45 minutes to install Company of Heroes'tov last night!

When I try to check the POI or DMA, There is no listing in Device driver under IDE, that allows me to check. This is in win 7

What would be the options? Thanks

sound like 1: you need to clean the lens or 2:the drive is failing.... i most probable bet on the second

Welcome to SevenForums.

You wouldn't find it under IDE since your drive is SATA.

You could try updating your chipset drivers for the sata ports.

Windows supplies the drivers for your drive.

You could try clicking on the DV-CDrom in device manager>update driver software and let windows search for a better driver.

The other thing you can do is search the manufaturers site for a firmware update.

Also you need to get the "unkonw device" with the yellow exclimation point in device manger fixed.

Try clicking on it.properties.update driver sooftware.

If that doesn't work click on it> properties>details tab> drop down menu>select hardware id> copy and paste the id string and we'll see if we can find a driver for you.

Maybe the CD was recorded in a very low density.

The CD player is 2 day's old in a new build.

I will go try those ideas and see what I come up with.

You could try hooking up the drive to the non-Intel controller and setting the mode to IDE.
Hard drives and SSD's take advantage of AHCI, but having an optical drive on a controller with AHCI
enabled can degrade the performance of the optical drive.

I usually place my optical drives on the second controller and enable the IDE mode.

Not sure I know how to do that, find the "second controller", is that in bios?

How does the device perform in general with R/W operations to a CD or DVD. Try a drag & drop of some small and large files.
Is the device always slow?

This is on the Hardware Ids "value"

Only things connected to my USB are keyboard,mouse and Belkin network adapter. I have the Graphite 600T case which has a front panel USB 3.0 that has to be routed to the rear of the MB, but I tried unplugging it.

As far as the cdrom, I searched, no driver/firmware updates. I even downloaded Microsofts update search utility. I also went on ASUS/support and downloaded the Jenkins (Ithink) drivers, nothing. I didnt download the "Marvell" since I'm not using those 2 6Dbs ports

You can go to device manager and click on the device then uninstall> restart your system and windows should re-install the drivers.

Un-installed the CD and re-installed it. Had to remove it from Device manager as recommended and it works allot better now.

That's the first I've ever heard of this. Some older programs couldn't see a burner on an AHCI controller, but that was first fixed with drivers, and now doesn't seem to be an issue at all. However, it was never about performance. I've only used Samsung drives for the past 5 years or so, but using about 20 SATA drives in various builds, all on AHCI, I've never had an issue.

Do you have a link to describe this behavior?

It may not be the drive that is bad. What type of HD are you using? green HD's are slow and can give such a problem or maybe some other hardware or software issue may be causing you problems. I saw in your Device Manager picture that one piece of hardware is not correctly detected. Make sure you have the newest drivers for you hardware and chipset, don't use the drivers on the CD that comes with your hardware, go directly to the hardware maker and download the newest. It could also be BIO settings since this is a new build, I doubt that your DVD is bad so check things over starting with your BIOs.
