WINDOWS 7 extremely slow to start

Hi. My Toshiba NB500 notebook is getting slower and slower, especially using the internet and in particular Facebook. Typically it takes 10 minutes to get up to speed and with a Facebook page that hasn't got pixels missing. Once it reaches that point everything is fine.
I've tried all the tips I can find on the internet, that someone with only a basic understanding of computers can follow. But strangely, my partner's laptop (same age and running Windows 7 also) had a similar problem recently. It also had a problem connecting to the internet using wi-fi, basically it wouldn't. However there was an error message, and using that and Google, plus 2 hours of changing settings, I managed to resolve it. After which Windows miraculously loaded in less than 30 seconds. The problem is I can't remember what that error message was, to make all the necessary changes. Can anyone help?

WINDOWS 7 this is Operating system this be equal is size to 8x XP Pro OS these running simultaneously.

Boot up time this is related to number of activated windows services and non-windows services which starting at boot.

Additionally any issues appear at Event Logger they should resolved by hand and by an Expert system administrator.
When Event Log issues are solved, only them the system will enjoy error free and a faster boot.

The most stupid thing that a user can do this is running three antivirus simultaneously so to feel safe.
Another unreasonable situation, this is leaving running all sort of things that apps install at User Profile.

In summary there is no single easy tip to solve such a problem, you need help from a specialist in computer repairs, so him to take control of your computer and to try to correct most problems.
And such a man he worth get payed with 50 Euro as minimum for his time spent that this would be three hours minimum.

Thanks for the suggestions, will check Avast tomorrow and look into MSE.
As for getting "professional" help, my partner already did that. It cost her 50 euros, solved nothing, and she lost internet use until I solved the problem using online resources like this forum. This is a very simple problem, I just need to reconfigure parts of Windows to speed up things. Someone somewhere has had the same experience of not connecting to the internet, I just need that error message.

Removing AVAST (I hope completely) has speeded things up, but the browser (latest version of OPERA) is still slow and FB still has the pixels-missing problem.
Also the fan is on permanently now.

As there is no more updates, my suggestion is to set Services - Windows Update - Manual and on WU page set it to Never check.
Then run WU manually to find updates for Office etc and decide witch one to install.

Open msconfig and set a clean boot.
- On services tab, hide disable all Microsoft services and disable all them
- On startup tab, disable all them
Restart and report
