Change Multiple Documents from US to UK language

Hi everyone,

I am currently using Microsoft Word 2010 and any new documents I create always use the UK language setting, which is great.

However I have been given a list of 72 word documents from someone and each one I open checks for US spelling and grammar so words like colour are spelt color which is no good for me to use as I am Primary school teacher. So rather than go into each one and manually change it to use UK language, is there a way of changing them all together?

Hi,

You may want to try the following...

1, Open Word
2, Click File > Options
3, In the Proofing tab, click Custom Dictionaries
4, Choose the default language from the dropdown box



By default, Word uses All languages: as it's main dictionary and could be auto detecting the language of the opened document.

Thankyou sooo much for this suggestion, however it hasn't resolved the problem.

It's more than likely something I'm going to have to learn to deal with

Thats 100% correct. Try the Language option shown below - essentially you want to be able to tell the 72 documents that they have incorrect spelling because you are checking them with the UK language. It can definately be done.

i don't know if this will work either, but it's worth a try...

on the review tab >> language >> set proofing language >> make sure uk is default, and untick 'detect language automatically'

is it possible to attach one of these word documents, so we could have a play?

Hi,

In the document, under Review, click Language, and then Proofing.

Select English UK, and set it to default. Note in my image I addded color and colour, and color is flagged as mispelt.

i think you'll need to change the proofing language as above - then save the document with the new UK default.

otherwise when you open it again, 'colour' will be marked as misspelt again. ('misspelt' just looks so wrong )

i'm wondering how to automate this for all 72 documents...any ideas anyone?

I think if you remove the tick from Detect language automatically, it will automate it for every document opened.
