hi,

I have a pc with an Asus P4S8X motherboard (socket 478).
Today I replaced my Pentium 4 2533 MHz with a Pentium 4 2800 MHz, but... all is slower! also I can see lag when i'm surfing in my BIOS options...

Why this is happening?

Does that cpu support hyperthreading ?

Is hyperthreading enabled in the bios ?

It sometimes gets disabled when you swap a cpu.

both CPUs have got a Northwood core, which does'n support Hyperthreading. They are in the same Pentium 4 family, just one has a little better frequency than the other.

I can see lag not only in Windows, but also in BIOS!

Did you clean off the old thermal paste and put new paste on the CPU?
If not then it may be getting too hot and throttling to keep from overheating.

I did it... Nothing.
I re-installed the old cpu, which is a lot faster...
