I tried the right click my computer>manage>disk managment. it isnt shown there at all. I launched minitool partition wizzard 10 and it doesnt see it either.

is it a windows 7 thing? or maybe fw or an MB driver addition that needs to installed?

GA-H170-D3HP (rev. 1.0) Support | Motherboard - GIGABYTE Global

Im thinking this is a w7 thing. im searching. maybe I can find the installer.

first time using nvme.

trying to get everything over from my old pc over. 6 months the pc sits here waiting and I havent done much with it

ok found a driver. Windows6.1-KB2990941-x64

installed and minitool saw it. I tried to clone my sata ssd to it. it did a reboot, came back, I forgot to check in disk manager. ebooted. went into bios to do boot from nvme and its not an option at all even those in nvme settings it shows it there, but not listed in boot

my guess is that I didnt clone properly.

ok, so wiped the drive clean, followed a good YT video
How to Migrate Windows to Another Drive - YouTube

then it was there in disk management

so shut down, unplugged the sata drive. it started to boot from nvme.

but as soon as it came to the 4 flag screen, it gave a quick error prompt which I wasnt able to read and it doesnt pass it. so yes, it seems like it cloned it, but not successfully. pity.

today seems to be a gray day. nothing is running right. even tried to run rufus and it would do nothing when I clicked the exe. what a day. fail

Before you clone the system to the NVMe you have to install the 2 update packages: KB2990941 and KB3087873. Those should enable NVMe support on Windows 7. The latter one is still available through Microsoft Update Catalog. The first one is only available through sites like archive.org.
