I was getting this pop up saying The application was unable to start correctly (0xc000009a) click ok to close and at the top it said mcagent.exe, I looked it up and it said it was something to do with my McAfee antivirus, (which I'm not happy with anyhow) I uninstalled my mcAfee, and installed the MSE it did a scan and found and fixed 1 threat. My question is, does anyone know if this is a good antivirus, and did I do the right thing by uninstalling the McAfee and switching to MSE. Is there anything else I should check.

If it were me, I would search McAfee's site to find their removal tool, and then run it according to the instructions. Antivirus' often leave remnants behind that can interfere with the currently installed AV. MSE is adequate, free protection that should serve you well, but there are better choices out there in terms of free protection.

IMO McAfee is malware. Doing as DBone has posted is very important. As for MSE, millions use it all over the world. I use it and it has served me well. The operating system, anti virus and built in firewall all made by Microsoft. They play well together.
Security programs is always in the eye of the beholder; this is what I use.

1. MSE, Microsoft Security Essentials
2. Windows built in Firewall
3. MAM, Malwarebytes Anti Malware Pro, (you can use the free one)
4. FileHippo Update Checker. Checks other programs for updates needed.
5. Try to keep the nut (me) behind the keyboard Updated.
