changing bio so i can boot from dvd

so somehow my bootmgr got compressed and i got that error everytime i restarted my computer. i got a repair disk but idk how to change it so my dvd driver boots first before my hard drive. i have windows 7 home premium 32 bit.

On most systems, pressing F12 at boot up will get you a menu to select where you want to boot from.

Give that a try.

Hi and Welcome to SevenForums,

You will need to change the boot order in the bios or depending on the make of laptop/desktop you have you may be able select a boot device by pressing F9 at startup.

Can you please fill out your system specs so we can see what hardware we a dealing with.

Just to add if it's of any help, we use HP's at work as the primary Manufacturer and F10 seems to be the default for the BIOS or you can press F9 to select a boot device (more of a one time thing rather than chaining the order).

i got a 32 bit dell optiplex gx620 small tower. all the other steps i found to do it showed boot options. but mine is different and not sure what to do

Take a look at this video, it's not the clearest, does your look like this?

Look from 1 minute 15 seconds, this is where the boot sequence is.

On Dell use F12 to choose boot device, run hardware Diagnostics to test hardware.

If the bootmgr compressed fix doesn't work, try System Restore to before you made any changes from the disk's System Recovery Options.

Try also a few Startup Repairs as suggested earlier, after confirming the Partition Marked Active .

If you decide to reinstall you can run Dell Windows 7 PC Restore or do the superior Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 . Be sure to read the Special Note to Dell Owners at the end about what partitions to save, and notice the step to rescue any files needed first.
