Hi all, searched but can't find!
I record music and when I open a saved file, the default folder options annoy the hell out of me as they give me a generic audio file option. The defaults are contributing artist, #, title, album, etc. All I wan't is title date created and size.
Every time I open a folder, to see size, I have to deselect the other defaults and add size. How in the world do I set a permanent default opening menu?
Thanks

Hi ,
Welcome to SevenForums!
Here you go!
Right-click any heading and the right-click popup menu will appear, uncheck or check as you wish.
If you place the cursor on the separator on the column headings you can resize them.
If you click within the heading box/container you can and drag and drop horizontally re-ordering them.

Thanks for that Snick, I appreciate your help. I can easily change them, and I have to do this every freakin' time! What I want to do, is fix it so they stay changed next time windows opens a folder with this file type. Ie. I ONLY want size and title, not all that stuff

With the folder open, in the Menu Bar, click View>Choose details. Then check the details you want. But I have to admit it doesn't always stick for the next time you open the folder. I had to do some of my own folders a few times

I don't know whether you are aware, but the Music folders all have the same Folder Template that can be customised.

If you customise the Music folder template, following this tutorial, then you should need specify Name, Creation Date, Size columns only the one time. (see Step 2 of tutorial).

All 3 of these methods do the same thing. But I've found they don't always stick. It's just a bug in the OS.

An alternative is available for those willing to bypass the GUI.

Some familiarity of cmd.exe is advantageous.

If the user tyes at the cmd prompt:
dir <pathname> /o:d /t:c
or
dir <pathname> /o:n /t:c

then that will produce an output with the required columns.
