chckdisk almost at every boot

Just in case this helps anyone else who may encounter this issue. Microsoft customer support suggested two things: 1)A repair using the Windows 7 disk and 2) Performing a disk cleanup.

As part of the disk cleanup, I chose the "Clean up system files," "More Options" and clicked the Clean up button under System Restore and Shadow Copies option. It cleaned quite a bit of data: about 35 gigabytes on my 320 GB drive. Will report back in a week with details on whether this fixed the NTFS error or not.

I am not sure that is the cause of this particular issue.

Nevertheless, neither Partition Magic, nor Acronis Disk Director are compatible with Windows 7. Avoid them.

... it has nothing to do with partitioning (at least in my case). I did a clean format/install using the win7 installation CD.

By the way I am still not sure that it will be THE SOLUTION but:

i.e. it really looks avira. In the meantime I got used to turn avira off everytime I boot down (by disabling all the avira services) and since then I had only 1 checkdisk at all .......

well let's see .....

Suggest you uninstall Avira and try Avast free home, the most lightweight yet effective free AV.

Have put it on over a hundred machines without a single issue or virus.
 
I'm not certain that it relates to this, but the only time that I have experienced unexpected chkdsk on boot was in XP, but that was because that I had one partition that was not formatted as NTSF. For some reason my FAT32 partition was causing the problem.

EDIT: That was fairly easy to see, because it was the FAT32 volume that it kept wanting to check.

I do not want to be agressive but: I have answered to the same suggestion 100 times. It is a corporate antivir i.e. I can not deinstall it and choose another one!

avira have managed to recreate the chkdsk error in a windows 7 environment and have also released a fix which is due to be included in one of the next updates , there are multiple threads on their forum covering the issue , such as this one :geek:

Im pleased they are taking it seriously :cool:

So the thread is now solved then.....wait for an update from either Windows or Avira or PM a mod at the Avira forums for a link to the hotfix that stops this issue???????

.. I still do not konw: I do not use my laptop since a while, and I do not reboot my PC since a while ...

What I have noticed is that, before avira went out with the fix, if I was turning avira off before every boot (by disabling ALL the avira services before rebooting) I was almost not getting any checkdisk anymore ....

yes, it seems to me that the problem is now solved.
After the Avira "patch" / update I had no check-disk anymore on both the laptop and on the PC.

Change to Avast free home and you'll never have to think about your AV again.

Have put it on over a hundred machines without a single issue or virus. Lean, mean, invisible with almost no resource hit.
 
I have a lifetime license for Outpost Security Suite, therefore as long as I don't get a virus, it doesn't cross my mind.

Found my answer. I thought my problem was the Samsung SSD I had gotten. It actually wasn't that, it was an issue with an IR device and windows 7. I was surprised because it seems completely unrelated, but microsoft has released the hotfix. After reboot, I had the chkdsk screen show up and complete the scan, it restarted, and turned on without any problems!
