How would one check the integrity of a downloaded OS if the original .iso is gone. Must have deleted the original .iso after a good DVD was burned. OS is now installed and I would like to verify that the original download is correct and complete.

I know how to check the hashes or md5's but am looking to find out which installed file needs to be checked and what a known hash would be for that file.

That's what the "System File Checker" (SFC) is designed to do. Running SFC /SCANNOW will compare the current files to their known-good versions and flag/fix any discrepancies.

The .iso was burned to a DVD and then accidentally deleted.
I was wondering if there is another file on the burned OS DVD or within the installed Windows that can be checked against the original.

I have tried creating a new .iso of the disc using Nero 8 but I keep getting an error that says the install.wmm file is larger than 2 gigs and an iso cannot be created.

The system scan did come up clean - is that enough to ease my mind?

ISO and dvd should be the same. Dont use nero, try ImgBurn, or PowerISO, burn at slow speed.

Im dense today. do you just want to ease your mind about thedvd being clean?

Yes, just want to verify my copy is not 'altered' in any way.

If you can find the hash of any file (like setup) you can compare it to what you have but only the hash of the entire thing will tell you if it is all the same
