Hi,

Quick question. As I've seen in other threads that it depends on the mobo. Is there any software I can use to check the maximum memory allowed by a specific system?

I have this laptop Sony Vaio VGN-FS810. It's quite old.

It was working with 2 modules of 512 MB each.

I acquired a 2GB module and works OK. Now, having the 2GB in one slot, when I put one of the 512MB sticks it doesn't boot up. And with the other it just recognizes 2GB of ram.

The online manual from Sony says it is "upgradeable up to 2GB". I don't know if that's total or per slot.
Or maybe they're not compatible since they're different brands and that's why with one it doesn't recognize it and with the other it doesn't boot up (the 512MB sticks are different brand between them).

Anyway... is there any way I can see how much it can handle?
AIDA64 doesn't tell me.

On other topic, I found something quite odd while checking the new RAM. I attached an image. It's DDR2 indeed. Or maybe it refers to something else I don't know.

Thanks in advance.

No worries, yeah on the left hand side it states the maximum memory for the system.
