Chipset Drivers

Hi

I've now had a response from Antec which is below as you will see they are asking me to cut the cables from the USB connector. I find this a little odd has anyone else had this experience in the past with them when they requested replacement parts?

Please advise,

Thanks

Hi,

Your case is still under the warranty. For replacement of spare parts under the warranty, customers need to prove the valid proof of the damages by sending the broken parts back to our office or by providing the correct pictures.

According to your description, the USB doesn't have a visible damage. Therefore, please just clip the cables of the default port. Then please take a picture for it. The picture must clealy show the clipped cables.

Absolutely not! That just sounds wacky!!

I guess what they are saying is that in order to get a replacement part you have to show that the old one is "broken" - so they want you to break it and take a picture?
What happens then? "I'm sorry Sir but it is obvious that this is not a manufacturing defect"??

I think I would want to talk to someone on the phone, or get a second opinion.
Yikes.

I agree. That is totally ridiculous. What are they going to say if you do as they ask? Probably that by willfully damaging the cable, (even though it was they who requested that you do so), you have voided the warranty.

I find it difficult to believe that a reputable manufacture would request such a thing.

As a sideline, I have a similar issue. My bootable USB sticks, although they are accessible from the front USB port, will not boot from it and in fact cause the system to hang if I try to do so. They do, however, work in the other ports.

Hi

Thanks for your replies I agree that this is very unusual and have never heard a company ask people to break things, I think the reason they have asked me to clip the cables is so that they can see it's broken so that it won't work anymore. from what I gather if I do as they suggest then they will process a replacement.

This is the latest email I received earlier this evening from the same person I have also just found out that the audio and microphone ports are also built into the same unit as the USBS

please just clip the cables of the default port. Then please take a picture for it. The picture must clearly show the clipped cables and USB port.

Hi,

Just to update this thread Antec have now agreed to process the replacement after I clipped the cables and provided evidence of this. They have said that it should arrive in 5 working days time.

With regards to the chipset drivers is it best to use the latest ones out there? If its best to use the latest drivers, how is the best way to remove the previous drivers before installing the new ones?

Many thanks

Yes, always better to use the most current driver.

Chipset drivers usually install over the old ones. At least I have never needed to uninstall the old ones. You will get a notification if the drivers you are trying to install are older than the ones you already have installed.

Doesn't always follow. In some cases, driver updates are only applicable for particular chipset revisions and will not work or cause system lockups if installed on systems with the same chipset but an earlier revision.

Hi

I just want to check that these drivers will work with the motherboard below?

ATI Radeon

GA-MA770T-UD3

I don't know.

If I were going to install chipset drivers for my motherboard, I would go to the motherboard manufacturer's website to down the chipset driver recommended for my particular motherboard.
GA-MA770T-UD3 (rev. 1.4) - GIGABYTE - Support&Download - Motherboard - Driver

As Dwarf said, you need to be sure you are looking at the driver for the correct Revision Number of your GA-MA770T-UD3 board.
