2-questions:

firstly, I have a new computer (samsung 700z5c-s04), only used for 1+month...within the last week, I tried to perform backup, which failed unexpectedly. as per various internet searches, I performed chkdsk, which at first found just 5-bad clusters and I accepted it as perhaps random (100k bad clusters). second time backup failed again...I just re-ran chkdsk, which took all night and returned more bad clusters (now 3+MB bad clusters).
again, 3+MB on 750GB doesn't worry me, but the escalation in less than 1-week does...advice?

second, the chkdsk log upon the second re-run was truncated, so I cannot see the files that had bad clusters (and may be corrupted)...is there any way to get complete log?
and how to extend log so this does not repeat? (I followed some other internet search (right clicking windows log | application properties), but it seemed to indicate maximum log size of 20480kb whereas the log size was only 6.07mb, which confused me why it is truncating the last chkdsk.

thank you.

If brand new purchase, call Samsung and get a replacement hard drive.

From what you're reporting, that drive is progressing quickly to it's grave.

Do you have the re-installation dvd? Or were you supposed to burn it yourself from the Samsung instructions? Another alternative is to order it from Samsung as well.

In the meantime, you could download Seatools bootable iso hd diagnostic; burn it, then boot up with it and run the hard drive tests to confirm it's state.

As to the CHKDSK log, don't worry about the truncation. The only important line is bad sectors. The other stuff is maintenance.

Hello pson mate you could try a factory default on the machine - you have nothing to lose and it might just be a bad install of 7.

Now I don't know exactly what default key is but typically most preinstalled machines you power on and tap a F key usually F2 or F10 F12 or even DEL. F8 will be safe mode so try the others in turn. Oh if you hit the right one just follow the prompts

The alternative is to go to the dealers and get them to put it right or you could ask them what the default key is.

Support is 700Z5C-S01 - SUPPORT | SAMSUNG

I'm not a technician, so please forgive while I ask a follow-up to confirm my understanding.
I ran chkdsk a third time...it took 72-hours and found 5845 bad clusters (it finds more each time), then rebooted fine, but hanged again while I tried to backup data a fourth time.
I took to Samsung (as instructed after they indicated it's either faulty processor, ram or hard drive), and it seems all they did was reformat the hard drive.
am i correct to assume this just ignores/papers over an obvious hardware failure? or as suggested above could the symptoms really just be a bad software installation of operating system?

Please run Crystal Disk and post a snapshot of the SMART values here for each HDD/SSD.. Might give some info

Hey pson mate with specs like these Review Samsung Series 7 700Z5C Notebook - Notebookcheck.net Reviews that thing should scream through a chkdsk do the test as Centaur says there is something VERY wrong somewhere and I think personally it is the drive - nice machine though:)

thanks to all!
after 2-days of managing samsung, and repeating to them no less than 4-times the critical symptoms as per above, I got them to replace the hard drive and all seems to be ok, at least for now...
appreciate everyones replies as it helped me press for what I hope is a more permanent solution instead of glossing-over the problem, as per samsung's first attempts.
