chkdsk (aka scandisk) is a good tool, but mine stopped working. I've tried running restore but no luck. MS will probably sell you something for $150. No way Jose. Here's the message I get below. Last time I ran this there were some numbers at the end. Maybe they're sort of a pointer to the software mentioned. They're so inconsiderate. Why don't they just tell you ! Seriously thinking about Linux Mint or similar. MS has enough money ....... Thanks :( P.S. I did search this forum first. No answers ...... Win 7 x 64

Press the <F8> key repeatedly while booting and bring up this screen. Choose Repair Your Computer. If that failed, then try Last Known Good Configuration (Advanced)

I ran everything that was suggested and it fixed a couple of things but Chkdsk still doesn't work. If chkdsk doesn't do anything there's no sense running it. BTW a windows fix it program popped up near the top of this site (called reimage) Avast blocked it as a bad site.
Ya know, I still have my old XP pro computer. I fire it up once in a while and it doesn't give me any trouble. Windows 7 should be called Pay me heaven. Free download, Free download, Free download (that should be illegal). What that actually means is Pay me, Pay me, Pay me ("Danny DeVito") LOL.

I'm an older fellow on a fixed income. Guess I'll have to spend my last years learning linux. Thanks any way.

You give up too easily!

Windows 7 is a good OS. Not all windows issues are click, click and it is fixed. Actually very few are corrected with automated tools!

Have a few more ideas before I recommend a Repair Install. A Repair Install replaces your Windows 7 and keeps all your file, folders, music, picture, everything!

Would you please download System Update Readiness Tool x64, run it and post CBS.log, & CheckSUR.log when it completes.
The logs are located: C:\Windows\Logs\CBS
Place the logs in a zipped/compressed folder and upload. If the combined size of the ZIP is larger than 8.95 MB or RAR is larger than 8.0 MB it won't upload to SevenForums.

Here's my View attachment Repair Install Instructions.docx for your perusal.

Hi Snick,

Microsoft will give up on it just like XP. It's all about money for people who already have money. I'll continue to use it because I have two hard drives in my desktop computer and some of my software for testing telescope optics is made for windows. I can power down press a button, power on and use Elementary OS (not sure if I like it yet). I could reload it with Mint or Zorin. I also have an on off switchbox for my ethernet cable. I'm thinking about the freedom from antivirusware, nags and ads.
What do I get with the
System Update Readiness Tool x64 ? Windows 10 ?
