Solved Many programs 'stopped working' - what's the reason

Hello to all on this forum,

Some time ago I restored system and after doing that some of the programs, like Autocad, Livemail, and some other .exe do not launch. It's just said 'program has stopped working and will be closed'.

If it's about Live Mail, I tried almost everyghing - sfc /scannow, I tried repairing it, uninstalling, deleting the file where the accounts are stored and so on. I searched internet over three days and tried all given solutions but none of them worked and since then I've started to think that this might not be the problem of Live Mail itself but rather a system problem.

My question is, is it worth trying to repair it in some way that only You guys might know or it's better to reinstall windows using this upgrade option - as far as I know all programs should stay as they are, correct me if I'm wrong, it's important to me. I've got so many graphic programs that I'd rather avoid reinstalling anything.

Have you tried scanning for malware?

Thanks blue robot, however I've Microsoft Security Essentials installed and also already checked the system with Malwarebytes.
But I'll try to verify the thread you've given step by step and let You know if any of the solutions worked.

Yes, it would be the best option, it probably will save you time going through all the steps.

I was going to suggest it myself.

I will Blue robot, but I decided to finish my important rendering stuff before doing it. All this windows tweaking is always encumbered with risk which I'd rather like to avoid now. Give me one week, I'll post back if it solved or I will be begging for help again cheers!

Today I had again some system problems and I decided that I've had enough.
I upgraded windows as we talked before and everything went flawless (but long, about 2,5hour)
No errors I metioned earlier so far.

What were the system problems? Was the repair install successful?

I'm still here, even though it appears that I'm offline, very long time period between posts means I'm at work.

Bu You mean problems before? Those were problems like I described, some exe files didn't work, includig live mail, I had also problems with ATI drivers. As I said, I repaired win 7 using upgrade option so I left computer for 3 hours and when I came back, all was on it's place like shortcuts, wallpaper and settings.
But the difference is that everything works!

Yes of course, You're absolutely right.
And to be honest, this is the best way for resolving any serious problems with system. I really recommend it, except the time - someone who does it must be prepared for about 2-3 hours (that's probably dependand on number of programs installed - I have them a lot).
