Choppy video playback with Xbox360 Extender

Hi all,

Using the Xbox 360 as an extender to watch movies. Playback gets kinda choppy and very annoying. Audio is fine, no glitches or anything.

Setup is wired, although it is a slightly long cable (50 foot if i recall correctly), the videos aren't the highest quality (which one would think would make it easier to send over due to lower size/res). Bandwidth is good, all that fun stuff.

Any tips anyone could toss my way about making the video not choppy?

So the original isn't choppy on the PC? What resolution are you running?
Mine runs over wireless, and somehow is less glitchy and choppy on the extender (might be the TV though, might be that the 360 is purely playing video and nothing else).

Nope, perfectly fine on the PC, even though it is a bit of a dinosaur when it comes to video and all that.

PC resolution is 1440X900

TV is 48' LCD 1080i with the Xbox hooked up by component cable.

You might not have enough system resources which could cause some of the choppy video. Another could be having to deal with possible network problems. Try going to the xbox 360 media center extender side and scroll down to Task then Tune Network. If it says it has acceptable bandwidth then it's possible you are running too many things in the background that you would need to close to free up memory.

Ran the Tune network thing, came through full bars all the way to the top of HD.

When i do watch things downstairs through the xbox, i shut everything down on the PC and just let it sit, or do a fresh reboot and leave it alone after booting.

on average when i dont have anything running i will have about 1.5gb of memory available, and 0 processor use (other than the little tiny bits here and there for whatever windows wants it for).

I even went and cleaned space on my Xbox hard drive to see if that would help as i was down to about 1gb left.

Odd thing too, is it hasnt been happening with all videos, maybe about 75%. the 25% it is not skipping on seems random, some high quality, some low. some big files, some small, etc. Maybe i just need to get a new router and cables, the ones i have are getting kinda old....

What else is on the router? Could go for with 1 Gigabit ports on it.

As of the time the issue was occurring, just the PC and the Xbox. We have a second PC on it now but I havent watched anything on the box lately so I have no idea if that makes a difference.
