Choppy XViD playback and 100% CPU usage

I'm finding whenever I play any avi files my cpu usage jumps to 100% in WMP 12. I've tried shark007's codecs with no success. However, I don't have these problems in VLC player. I also know it's an xvid thing, as I have no problems playing DVD's, or music. The CPU just jumps to 100% with avi's it would seem. Any guesses?

This is an older nForce2 mobo with an AMD XP2500+, but I had no playback issues with Vista, so I don't believe the hardware to be the issue.

One of the main virtues of the Shark007 codecs is its ability to NOT modify native decoding by default.
So, you as a user, are empowered to modify things to achieve proper playback yourself.

To solve your issue with the Shark007 installation go to the Config TAB and choose to disable the XviD codec then go to the SWAP TAB and set MP4V and XVID to use FFDshow.

One other setting that is usefull with AVI files that completely fail to play is on the AVI TAB,
set gabest splitter.

Thanks, that seemed to work. It's still a bit choppy every now and then, but the CPU usage of WMP dropped to below 50% anyways!

Cheers!
