Chrome: Jim is dead.. How to diagnose

Hello

My PC has 24 GB of ram.

Lately, I often got problem where some of my Chrome browser page are killed and a message appear: ( Translation) "Jim is dead" and a note saying Chrome did not had sufficient memory or the proces was stopped for another reason

Any idea how I could diagnose this problem?

Any time you see something like this.

Jim is dead

I would suspect a infection.

What security programs are you using?
You need to do some security scans in my opinion.

I'm using Kaspersky 15
Scan is done on a regular basis. Will do it again

I would also use Malwarebytes and AdwCleaner.
Their is no program or browser that I know of should come up with Jim is dead
and then complain about 8 gigs of ram.

Google seems to suggest this is a genuine message. https://support.google.com/chrome/answer/1270364?hl=en-GB. The reason for it may be malware though.

Thanks for your input. I was aware of this info. I got plenty of memory, 24GB and using Win 7 64.

My suspicion is that Chrome is sharing memory with other software and a conflict arise.

Chrome can use a lot of memory if you have a lot of tabs open but 24GB is a bit much. Although the suggestion is that this is to do with memory it also mentions tabs being killed by the system. I wonder if malware or something else killed a tab whether you might get this message.

You can see how much memory chrome is using if you enter chrome://memory-redirect/ into the address bar.

Some say you will get that message when you shut down your computer with Chrome open.
To me it is malware.
It's none of Googles business how much ram one has or doesn't have.
Any program that does things like that makes one grab all the security scanning programs just to make sure your system is secure is malware.

If it was my computer Chrome would be gone. We have enough scare ware out there we don't need any more. Then telling us it's normal. B/S

Multiple tab... Maybe a problem. I often have many tab open. I will try to close more often and or use more than one session.

I will see if there is a Chrome 64 version

I just installed it 30 minutes ago. Running fine for the moment

Will see if I got less occurrence of the problem

With that much RAM do you also have a Paging File? Some folks suggest not having a Paging File when also having lots of RAM but some programs still look for it.

I changed nothing
All is running like the previous version for the moment

I don't see any difference and all my setting and extension are running like before. To make sure,
I did look the version using Chrome://Chrome and yes, I got the latest 64 version installed

Paging file: Don't know what it is, So probably not

As mention in the previous post, I just install the latest 64 version. Will see

No it uses your existing settings. The only minor problem is if you have an old single user install in the Appdata directory there may be shortcut addressing issues as it installs in Program Files (x86). Yes I know that's not where 64bit programs are supposed to be installed.

You probably do if you don't know what it is. The paging file is set up by default.
