Chrome just updated and now all I get is "aw snap"

You are not alone

I see suggestions that there may be a chrome.exe in both the application folder, and the application/version# folder. Copying the exe from the former, to the later can work, although updates may not work. I have also seen this can be caused by having more then one version of Chromium on the PC (Chrome, portable, any Chromium variants).

My old Chrome had an exe in the application folder, but that was uninstalled when I started having issues a few weeks back. The new installations all put the exe in the programs folder. I double-checked and there is no exe in the applications folder.

I'm back because something happened last night that has really thrown me for a loop now.

I never did figure out what happened with Chrome - the only way it runs now is if I have the .exe set to Vista service pack 2 compatibility mode. I have no idea what changed with my computer to make that happen. But last night, I started up Opera, and just like what happened with Chrome, my Online Armor firewall said the .exe had changed. I clicked allow figuring it had updated, and ever since, it won't run - just like what happened with chrome. It just says the page has crashed and try to reload it. I remembered what I did to get Chrome working again, so I set the Opera .exe to Vista service pack 2 compatibility mode, and sure enough, it runs. If I set compatibility mode back off, it won't run again.

What has happened? How can this happen to 2 different browsers? So far Firefox is fine. But so was Opera up until last night. I don't use Opera much but I do now and then. The only thing I can think of that Opera and Chrome share in common for me is I used both of them to access the Highpoint Raid Management software which is a browser interface that uses Java to access localhost:7402, which allows me to manage and disconnect my external esata drives connected through my SansDigital rr622 RocketRaid card. I have to use that Java based browser interface to safely remove the drives before I shut them off, and I use it every few days. I used to run it on Chrome, until Chrome stopped working correctly - then I started using it on Opera, until last night.

Could that somehow be messing something up? If so, what is it doing? Does anybody have any ideas?

I have no idea about the raid management software.

Here is a suggestion:

Uninstall online armor completely as a test,

Then test. You might need to uninstall/reinstall those programs again.
If everything starts working then you have your culprit.

I hesitate to do that only because I run the free version of online armor, and the free version doesn't allow me to save/backup my firewall rules. I have tons of firewall rules set up over a long period of time and it would be a major pain to have to go in and do them all over again. If there was a way to back the rules up I would have no problem doing that.

Chrome wont reload any pages and Extensions

All these solutions seem helpful but before you uninstall anything or delete data just try this, open task manager and find the chrome process(es) and end it, then restart chrome and all should be fixed, it worked for me in googles Chrome Canary
