I have one chrome tab open and i see this in task manager
is that supposed to happen?

Yes, it's normal. It's called "multi-process architecture", a design flaw of some browsers that use a new process for each tab and for each plugin, instead of the normal single process for the whole thing that every normal program uses. Chrome and all its clones use this. IE copied some aspects and Firefox was at a time trying to do the same.
