I just built an i7-3820 on a P9X79 with a OCZ ssd and its not running as well as I thought it would. Its quick, but Im getting a lot of applications freezing up and haveing to be forced closed.

It took me a few full installs to get the set up right so I had to install 7ult a few times, but I couldnt imagine that would matter.

Plus if I created a back up disk and ISO then factory reset the drive with OCZ's software then loaded the ISO I would be back at square one.

Ive tried most of the "optimaziation" tricks on the forums but wont get to involved because of my limited knowledge.

anyone have any ideas why there could be errors and what I can do about it?

It sounds like driver problems. Where did you get your hardware (motherboard chipset, audio, video, etc) drivers?

If you've installed your drivers correctly, then I would start by simplifying your setup. Drop to 8GB (or less) of RAM, remove all drives except your system drive, disconnect anything non-essential, etc.

I will give that a try and let you know how it goes. What about cleaning up the start up apps, what is necessary for the computer to run?

What programs have you installed? If you haven't installed anything, you shouldn't have any startup programs that will cause problems (usually, anyway).

alot it would not be worth going into. The question is there has to be a way to make sure things are running the way they should with out interference. Like is there a way to test if the ssd is really running at 6gbs? ive got the right ports the right cable and its(ahci) is enabled in both the mb and the os. But how can I test?

Actually, it is important to know what you've installed. You might not have any hardware issues - this might all be due to software problems.

Have you checked to make sure your SSD has the latest firmware? It might be prudent to look at the OCZ forums to see if anyone else is having freezing problems with that SSD. I'm not a big fan of OCZ because of their higher than normal failure rates, so I don't have any experience with them, their firmware, or their particular issues.

Work through these Troubleshooting Steps for Windows 7 which show how to establish a clean boot, read the logs for repeat errors, and use System Resources to find solutions.

Drivers are handled differently in Win7 than in XP. You should use the drivers given in the installer and quickly updated via optional Updates unless there are performance issues with those. More here on this and other Best Practices for Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 which are the same for retail.
