Clean Install W7 Home Premium_Prep

I've thought about that, but my lappy never overheats.I've even overclocked to a little over 1.9G-which isn't much-and ran Prime95 for 4 hours with no change in heat and with no issues.

I'll check the event viewer. Thank you again.:)

I'm sure you guys are getting tired of my whining.

I lokked around, and so far have found nothing indicating the cause of the sudden shut-down.Reliability shows all is well, nothing but info on installing updates and such.It was like 40 up-dates.I was also downloading MSE and a couple of other things.:o

I know,Take my time.I was tired and a little frantic.I'm quite sure it was my impatience that caused this.I will give it a couple weeks and see how things work out.

I do have a few performance issues, and will post them later in new threads-per your instructions.:D

I am currently catching up on rest,so it may be a while before you hear from me.:sleepy:

Thank you. i will continue monitoring my new install.

See ya later.;)

Nothing Serious

OK,I've been studying Event Viewer.

Seems as though I can get rid of a couple petty problems by installing CCC.I think. My OEM came with it (CCC) preimstalled.I cant find it now,so a download from ATI is in progress.Internet speed is exscruciatingly slow,so I won't have resuls for a while.

I haven't found anything definitive on the DNS issue yet,but still working on it.

All-in-all,I am pleased with the performance of my laptop. No issues at all since I backed away from it for a while.:D

NoN,your previous reply to this whole issue was on time-Link#98--"Does it still says 30days before activation? If so, let it be for a while...
wink.gif
."

I was amazed wen I saw what was in the installed programs list-nothing!I have never seen that before.Hell,I was more intimidated by uninstalling all the bloatware than the clean-install.(Mind you that the clean-install was no picnic for this hillbilly:cool:).

Bottom line........I should have done this when I first got this notebook.I just didn't have the knowledge until I came to Seven Forums.

http://www.sevenforums.com/drivers/27233-event-id-43029-52236-a.html

I tend to trust the Win7 installer drivers, and the newer ones which arrive quickly after install via optional Windows Updates, unless they prove otherwise in performance. So see if any are cued in Optional Updates and try that Display driver first.

Then you can move to the driver given on the Acer Support Downloads webpage for your computer model to try it. You do this in case they have modified the chip as some computer makers do.

Finally if still in error then use the ATI driver from their site.

Sometimes errors can be ignored if they don't manifest themselves in performance issues, but I agree that ATI error is too persistent and think you are on the right track, maybe just a step or two ahead.

Save the CCC download in your Downloads folder along with any other downloads. If you need to use it, I personally would try the ATI driver alone first, then the CCC package as a last resort. It runs services which need to be turned off in msconfig>Startup (the only thing I allow in there is AV and gadgets) unless you use special display controls.

I have installed drivers from Acer Support-one at a time.I have updated all drivers to the best of my ability.I have read and re-read post all over the net about atikmdad and have seemed to be left a little confused.

I am trying the updated direct-x approach now that was posed here -http://www.sevenforums.com/669022-post2.html.It may be a little while to post resuls,as my connection speed is hating it right now:huh:.

I am very pleased with my newly installed OS.I haven't had the first issue.Everything seems to be smooth as silk.---Reliability Monitor stuck at 10.System Health Report shws only that MSE is unrecognized.(Nothing new).No more heat issues.

I only have these pesky entries in Event Viewer.I am not the only one though-It's all over the net.A lot of answers, but no real solution yet as to my soecific problem.

I must be missing something...

If updating Direct-X doesn't fix this,I will start a new thread on the subject.

May I ask why you changed drivers given by the Win7 installer? Were there performance reasons for this?

THis is not XP or VIsta. THe authority on drivers for Win7 is the installer and WIndows Updates unless performance dictates otherwise, or there are missing drivers.

Have you noted performance changes since you changed these drivers? How many did you change....and why?

I installed Acer drivers because I recall something mentioned about mobo chipsets.I created restore points before each install,so if there are issues, hopefully I can revert back.

The Acer card reader-Because there was no Safely Remove Hardware option available.

The ATI VGA driver only-no CCC.I thought that by doing this I could get rid of errors in event viewer. There are no definitive answers that I can find as to why these are even present-much less the cure for it.

That's it....Oh,and the touchpad driver for domestic purposes;)'

I haven't seen any performance issues at all yet.Keeping a close eye on System Configuration.Just MSE,Sidebar, and Touchpad allowed at start-up.

If I updated my BIOS before the clean-install,do I have to re-flash?

Thanks for being there,gregrocker.:D

No, don't flash BIOS any more than necessary, and it's really only necessary if the update states it solves a problem you have.

So has the ATI error repeated since you changed out the driver?

Are there other good drivers given by installer, optional Windows Updates or the Acer website? Try each long enough to know if they improve things.

Are you happy with the way the laptop is running?
