are you trying to say after the install there is a Program Files (x86) Folder?

are you sure it is a 32 bit OS?

Try to check you system specs .. dxdiag on the search bar of the start menu

Its not normal in a 32 bit Win7 i think sir AddRam. every 32 bit Win7 that i have seen so far is only "Program Files" on it not "Program Files (x86)"

I think he meant for the folder name

So why is it there then.
I wouldn`t even worry about it.
It was upgraded from Vista, so there could be many anomolies. (even though he claims it`s a clean install)

Open this Program Files (x86) folder, is there anything in it ?

It is 32 bit and was installed to a quick formatted ssd that I had put 64 bit on earlier but changed my mind about using 64 bit. Vista had never been on this drive.

Well you have "upgraded from Vista" right there below your avatar, maybe you should remove that, just put what you have on the machine now :)

I used the same 49 dollar Upgrade DVD I got in Oct. 2009 when 7 was first released. How was it activated? I installed Windows on the ssd to the quick formatted partitions and did not enter my coa key until after Windows finished installing. I believe I went to system properties the next day and activated online and it took about 1 minute. This is an upgrade disk installed to a bare drive.Basically it works just
like a retail one.

Only "Program Files" here too on my Win 7 pro 32-bit

View attachment 347246

This old thread confirms that's how it should be: http://www.sevenforums.com/general-discussion/109663-no-program-files-x86-windows-7-a.html

Do you perhaps have a SysWOW64 folder too besides the \windows\system32?

No.
I have noticed that apps that have both 32x64 bit capabilities(CoreTempxSpeccy)put their 64 bit installers in x86 folder. Both these programs were installed within the Program Files directory.

If so, are the same programs in both folders, or some programs on one folder, and other programs in the other folder ?

Yes, some 64bit versions. Others aren't like Winamp. Stickies just puts the downloaded .exe installer in the Program Filesx86 folder However I don't think the 64bit vers. installed because CoreTemp in my tray shows as 32bit
I always install most of my programs here:c:\Program Files\CoolApps with various folders inside Utilities,MediaPlayers,GuiHelpers,Browsers, for orginization's sake. Control Panel shows one instance of each program.

I am installing a 32 bit to see what it shows, back in 15 :)

OK, after a clean install here`s what I get, but the issue on yours is so trivial, I wouldn`t give it a second thought.
Maybe windows just created it when you started installing programs, but you probably didn`t notice it til afterwards.
