Clean reinstall Win7 on Lenovo from Dell DVD

I apologize if this question has already been posted, but I would like to know if I can do a clean reinstall of Windows 7 on my Lenovo ThinkPad Edge from a Dell Reinstallation DVD? I used Magical Jelly Beak Keyfinder to find the Win7 CD key on my laptop. I'm just concerned that inputting this CD key will affect the reinstallation process since its a Dell DVD that I'm reinstalling from. I've found similar posts online, but their main problem seems to be using a Dell OEM key on a Lenovo laptop (which is not the case in my situation).

Thanks for all the help!

I hope this information helps! Just to reiterate, I would like to know if it is okay to use a Dell Reinstallation DVD to reinstall Windows 7 on my Lenovo laptop (using my Windows product key of course)

Do you have a COA sticker for Windows 7 Pro on the case of the machine?
If so, then yes, you could use the Dell DVD, and swap in your COA sticker Key.
The installation here is using an OEM_SLP Key - which will NOT work with the Dell disk.
Did this machine ship with Windows 7 installed - or with Windows 8 and downgrade?

Thanks for the reply NoelDP.

Unfortunately, there is no COA sticker on the case. This laptop was shipped with Windows 7 installed already.
Is there anyway I get the information for a COA key? Just out of curiosity, what would happen if I continue with the reinstallation and used my product key when activating? Would the process be cancelled or would Windows 7 be installed but with limited capabilities ?

Is there a Windows 8 sticker on the case instead? Is the sticker inside the battery compartment?
If not, then you have a counterfeit install :( - who was your vendor?

Oh sorry Noel, there actually is a Pro Windows 8 sticker on the laptop (but no COA on or in battery compartment). I actually got the laptop from the Department of Rehabilitation, so I'm assuming that they got it straight from the manufacturer.

Since I don't have a COA sticker, will there be any problems with getting a Win 7 reinstallation DVD from Lenovo?

There shouldn't be any problems if you use the proper Lenovo disk(s) - as far as I can tell, the SLIC table required is present and correct.

Yep, if you use the Dell disc, it won`t activate. You`ll need a Windows 7 product key.

You can always try the key you found, good luck.

So, I only have experience with using a CD to reformat a hard drive, but I was just informed that using the recovery partition is an option. Is using the recovery partition on a Lenovo to reinstall Windows 7 any more easier/reliable than using a CD? Thanks for all the help.

The recovery partition will take the PC to an out of the box new state, nothing really wrong with that, just uninstall any software you don`t use after the reset.

A clean install is always best, but what can ya do.
