Solved Cloning software

Hello,

I have been using Shadow Copy Cloner since 2011, it's worked really well but the business seems to have vanished.

So I'm on the look out for new cloning software. SCC cloned my entire C drive and made it bootable on an external HDD, it was fast and effective, when in trouble I could plug the external in and boot up.

Is there anything out there that will do the same?

Cheers
Jim

Amongst many, I can mention and vouch for the two I licensed and use: Acronis True Image and Macrium Reflect Pro. I have restored my OS partition on each of my 3 computers over the years using either one of their full OS partition images. I have the pay-for versions because of the extra goodies I got.

With SCC I could use the same external and write a new clone to it every time, I think it just updated the clone and deleted the old files that weren't on the source drive at the time.

How do those programs you've mentioned work, do they write a separate new full clone every time or an incremental one? Do they write to a external hdd which is bootable?

Cheers
Jim

I have mine set to simply make a new OS or data full-partition image. I never have tried differencial or incremental backups. Both Acronis and Macrium allow the making of USB and DVD boots with enough stuff on such to restore any done-in partition. I only keep 2-3 OS partition images on each of my six external USB-connected platter-clatter hard-drives.

Another vote for Macrium Reflect Free (here is a good tutorial on how to use Macrium Reflect). Both the free version and the paid for versions are good. Macrium Reflect can be used for both cloning and imaging.

Btw, I believe you may be condusing cloning with imaging. Cloning is making an exact copy of one disk or partition directly to another disk or partition. Imaging works a lot like film photography. The imaging program creates an image of what is on the disk that is like a photo negative. The image is then used to recreate the data on another or the same disk, much like a photo negative is use to create a photo print.

Yes, that's correct I'm looking for an exact copy/clone of my OS drive, the whole drive not just the os, SCC did this for me and made it bootable, I don't think there is another like it.

Macrium Reflect will easily do that.

Sounds great.

Thanks for your help.
