I am buying a new Dell laptop with Win10, SSD and wish to migrate all my applications/drivers and data to the Dell. The problem is that my OS is different, and of course the hardware also (HDD, etc).

From what I have read on Aomei's site, a disk clone will replace the targeted drive (Win10), which by itself is not a problem, but I am afraid it will void the new warranty. Aomei also has a "Universal Restore" on their Pro version, which can overcome the different hardware barrier, but I think the OS will still be replaced.

What are the possible ways of succeeding in this project, and appreciate the suggestions.

If it is a brand new laptop, it might be tricky to run win7 on it. Maybe not. Depends on the make, the precise model and what the manufacturer has done. Some use cheapo bulk mobos without csm for example. in addition, there are no reliable win7 drivers for intel cpu graphics 10 and 11 gen and also touchpad drivers might not be available.. That shouldnt matter for a desktop, where there is a separate graphics card.

Assuming the hardware supports win7, you will need a win7 license for the machine.

If you dont mind using win10 you could try this :

1. make a backup image of your current win7 system for safety.

2. "Upgrade" install your current win 7 to win 10, which theoretically keeps your programs and settings.

3. Transfer that "upgraded" hd to the new machine. Or clone the "upgraded" hd to the laptop ssd

OK, will try the Win10 upgrade, which is actually a simple and great possibility! This will solve the driver/OS incompatibility which will have been "tested" with the Win10 upgrade on the old PC. A question though, if I clone the new SSD on the Dell, its current sytem/data will be overwritten?

FYI this will be a business PC for my wife, and I am sticking with the "best OS" which in the one everyone loves here.
